Great for a spa break
We spent a pleasant few nights here in October. The site is open and level with great facilities and very welcoming and efficient wardens. The information room is great, particularly around practical information such as bus timetables, taxi firms and local car parks that do not have height barriers. There is road noise but to be expected given the location of the site alongside a busy road.
The walk into Knaresborough along the road isn't great. Narrow pavements that often require single file walking and heavy traffic with large vehicles passing very close by. Walking with children may be difficult in parts. We didn't have time to do the safer and more pleasant walk via the gorge and after our first foray on foot opted to use the bus. It runs every two hours and is a quick journey into Knaresborough although be aware that the last bus returning to the site (at time of writing) leaves Knaresborough at 5.30pm. Thanks to the members, also on the bus who helped us to get off at the right stop!
Knaresborough was less interesting than I had thought although there are some lovely old buildings to look at. The bus into Harrogate leaves Knaresborough every 15 minutes and is an easy 20-30 minute trip. We used the bus to travel into Harrogate and can recommend Bettys (no queue as we arrived for breakfast at 10am) and the Turkish Baths. Both are a real treat, the historic baths are beautiful to look at and at around £25 for two hours are not bad value. Best to book in advance though as the sessions soon fill up.
The only spoiler is members who choose not to control their dogs allowing them to use my motorhome and grass alongside as a toilet. Five dogs. A warden was very helpful and said that he would keep an eye on those outfits and talk to the owners if he saw what we had described. Unreasonable though for members with dogs to submit other members to this sort of thing and unpleasant for wardens to be in a position where they have to ask adults to observe simple and reasonable requests to control dogs and keep them on a lead.
