A lovely site in a picturesque area
We've been touring 16 years and never had previously visited Knaresborough. Although you have to be careful going through Knaresborough town centre, it's a straightforward enough route as long as you keep looking well ahead and anticipating the movement of other vehicles.
The site itself is 2 miles away from the town centre - about a 40 minute walk if you use the main road. It's busy but with a footpath alongside most people won't have an issue. There's certain points near the town where you need to cross over to keep on a footpath and this can be a bit tricky if the road is busy. There is another way into town via the Nidd Gorge - a lovely route through the woods that we recommend. We got an Uber taxi from town back to the site and this was only £5 which we thought reasonable. The bus service sadly isn't good - a cursory check of the local services revealed a 2 hourly service which obviously you'd need to plan in advance.
There's a great pub 10 minutes walk (into Scotton) from the site and we recommend a visit for a beer or two and a meal.
The site is very well kept and there are 2 main facilities blocks. The older (upper) one did seem to be a bit cold when we were there - perhaps this is down for a refresh sometime. The lower block was modern and comfortable, no similar issues. The wardens team were great, very friendly and knowledgeable about the things worth seeing locally. We weren't too keen on the main bins being down at the entrance but understand this is a central CAMC thing and not something the site team did.
We did have minor issues on our pitch with the electric - the alarm kept going off on our fridge which warns of a potential capacity overload (even when the caravan heating was set to 1kw) so we switched to gas when we were there. This could have been unique to our pitch I don't know - I didn't bring up with the site team as to be honest everyrthing else about the site was perfect. We moved on after our planned 3 night stay to Cayton Village site in Scarborough and the fridge behaved itself perfectly on electric leading me to assume it must have either been an issue with our electric post or an overall capacity issue on the site.
That aside, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. With the distance away from the town centre I'd say it wasn't that brilliant for families, although like us, a shorter stay is fine as long as you can get off in your car somewhere. Motorhomers might struggle if they leave their unit on site though.
Hope this review doesn't appear to be negative - our honest opinion is it's excellent for short stays, but the location makes it less effective for longer stays
