Great Improvements
We have visited Knaresborough Club Site several times over the last ten years and returned at the beginning of April after a break of about a year. What a dramatic change! Gone were the unreliable grass pitches and in place are lovely spacious hardstandings. We pitched on one of these opposite the reception which, incidentally was where our tourer got bogged down while trying to reverse onto the sodden grass on our last visit following a stormy week. This was only pitch available at that time but with standing water, mud and protruding tree roots it was more like the everglades.
On our arrival we encountered roadworks with traffic lights at the New Road junction which caused quite a tailback. Once through the lights we had to wait behind other arrivals for a short while but the warden (Michael) got us all moving quickly onto a pitch without needing to get out of the car. He took the club cards from people as they arrived and passed them to his Lady in the office who did all the arrival processing while we pitched. A very efficient system which prevented traffic building up on the road outside.
Saturday started off a dull day with drizzle and a woodpecker rattling away in the tree above our caravan like a DeWalt drill but it brightened up later while we were out exploring Skipton, one of many places worth a visit within easy reach of the site. This site has the bistro and bar which is a great place to eat and meet up with other visitors for a chat over a drink. We were pleased to see Chris was still working there but due to a staff shortage this weekend the warden was standing in as barman, a job which he was well suited to with his bright and chatty attitude.
There are several comments about the arrival time at this site and as mentioned elsewhere it is not before 1 PM. I understand that this is something the club has instructed the warden to do to alleviate traffic problems outside the site and back in the town. As people have discovered, if you arrive early you are not able to pitch and will get turned away so be aware. Indeed, while we were packing up on Sunday morning an early arrival drove in before 12.00 and parked in the waiting bay temporarily blocking the new pitches with vans getting ready to leave.
Summary: A top quality site with bistro and bar, good location and great wardens. Well done, it ticks all the boxes.
