Good for families

First visit therefore initial first impressions.

Easy access to site from main road onto side road and turning right into the site, pull forward to barrier, get out, walk to reception and be greeted in timely fashion. Had been trying to book Sunday to Sunday as with all our sites of choice, settled for Sunday to Saturday as no weekend availability as advised by warden that site was full. Advised by warden to ask in reception on daily basis. After 3 days decided to abandon this, due in part because pitches 61 to 79 being empty and roped off. I am sure there is a perfectly sensible reason for this, however the site has just re opened following a refurbishment and grass pitches changed for hard standing and serviced pitches, 61 to 79 being both hs with some serviced. No matter, we decided to leave and may try to return later in the year when we can book a full week or more. As far as the actual site goes its: handy for our motorhome as-the pitches are large and flat. The surface good with smaller hardcore. The facilities are, as expected clean, warm and normal CCMHC. The site as a whole is tidy and has good layout. The Wanderer is clean tidy has a normal type menu with some specials available. Its no more expensive than any other eatery locally but is handy to have on site. We did find it odd having dogs allowed in all parts of the restaurant and there was some barking when other dogs arrived and walked past with their owners. At one point it did feel, as a none dog owner, that we were the odd ones out. Not as comfortable with this idea particularly when owners arrive with more than one dog at a time. Perhaps the club are carrying out a monitoring of how this service pans out..... Our actual meal taken in a booth, was tasty, the staff pleasent and the drinks also enjoyable. We used the local bus service everyday and found the drivers very kind and helpful. The stops just outside the gate. The one opposite going to Rippon and onto York, the one on the side of the site going to Knaresborough and Harrogate. All of thes places having much to see and do. Those interested in all things plants and gardens may likeRHS Harlow Carr also accessible by bus from Harrogate. We enjoyed our visit to this area rich in heritages and cultures and hope to visit again in the future.
