Excellent new facilities but terrible Bistro

We arrived at Knaresborough and were really impressed with the new facilities and the way the Bistro had been upgraded. We had been looking forward to enjoying meals at the new Bistro. The previous one looking tired and the food average. However, we were sorely disappointed and this was the evening before the GRAND OPENING!!! My husband ordered the Sunday lunch which, as previously described by another reviewer, consisted of a burnt offering, the beef being like leather and the Yorkshire pudding burnt almost to a crisp, with peas and sweet corn straight from the freezer, a carrot and one roast potato for the princely sum of £12.95. I decided to act cautiously and ordered Caesar Salad - what can you do wrong with a Caesar Salad!!! It came - a small bowl filled to the brim of chopped - yes you did read that correctly - chopped little gem lettuce. Not separated leaves but cut into chunks. If it’s cut into chunks how did they clean it....... The sliced chicken was straight from the fridge - for which I paid extra - there were one or two hard croutons and a few drops and I mean drops of Caesar sauce. That was it. I had to ask for the Parmesan and more sauce and the Anchovies - which are on the menu - and which the waiter asked if I wanted. I was told the anchovies were included in the sauce. What rot - there were no anchovies in the sauce. When I complained to the waiter he rudely asked me if I was a Chef, to which. I replied I have had Caesar Saads all over the world and this definitely is not a Caesar Salad. For this we paid £32 including a drink. We spent the rest of our holiday eating in the delightful Guy Fawkes where the food is excellent and good value for money at a cost similar or lower than the Bistro. Like a previous reviewer the Chef was too busy to come and speak to me and there were only 3 other tables occupied. When we go back to Knaresborough again there is no doubt that we will be eating at the very welcoming Guy Fawkes, where the owner thanked us for returning and for taking our family.
