DISAPPOINTING
This holiday had been booked for months advising
make of vehicle, caravan details, hardstanding and awning required.
We left Scotland extremely early on a Thursday morning but due to roadworks journey took about
7 hours. The road from Knaresborough to Scotton
with a caravan is rather treacherous and the entrance to the site
leaves a lot to be desired especially when a vehicle
towing a van on arrival meets with another leaving.
The entrance floods. Only 2 hardstanding pitches left, wardens not interested in our Volvo XC70
with van and awning not being suitable for space available at that pitch so we
had to settle for the tent area which is like Watership
Down with a terrific amount of rabbits, totally unsuitable for a relaxing holiday with 2 gundogs.
The grass was full of droppings. The electric point
is hidden under trees and amongst shrubbery which is not maintained so my husband after attempting to track it had to return to the office to ascertain if there was an electric point available for the grass area. Fortunately we had a long cable and I mean "long".
The overgrown weeds and shrubbery all around the grass area were between 2 to 3 feet in height and the amount of insects especially when trying to eat outside was impossible with the aforementioned
army of rabbits and droppings underfoot.
We received a display badge from the Club earlier this year for 25 years membership but sadly it is not the same Club nowadays.
The wardens' attitude leaves a lot to be desired
too at this site at the present time. When approached to ask a question about the lack of space before I finished back came "well no-one else complained". Strangely enough the following day a hedge at one of the available pitches offered to us when we arrived the day before and was supposedly suitable for our requirements was fiercely
trimmed back enabling another visitor to park up with a VW Passat car and a caravan (no space for awning) and we were offered that.
This is a first complaint from a dissatisfied couple
who have always only used Club sites but our
attitude is quickly changing and alternatives will be considered and visited.
