Good for families

Be careful what you wish for!

Having visited this site in August for a week I was really impressed by the standard of the facilities on the site. We even enjoyed a meal in The Wanderer and overall the experience was a good one. So much so that we booked again for mid-term break - a fully serviced pitch for a week. Arrival and set up was painless despite the rain and wet weather. My husband had to return to work and wasn't coming back until Thursday evening, I booked a table in The Wanderer for 19.30 and sat back to look forward to our meal. We arrived at the restaurant at about 19.25 for our booking to be told our table wasn't ready and we would have to wait 20 mins, there were many things that weren't right with the experience and too many to go into here but to have to wait over an hour and a half for your food and then to find it raw was a few.The club need to look at the service they can provide in these restaurants and ensure that they are not biting off more than they can chew, we were informed by the waiter that the club are looking at opening other restaurants at other sites and I worry that the expectations won't live up to the reality. We love the convenience of Knaresborough and the site wardens are friendly and efficient however the experience of Thursday night will stay with me for a long time. Please don't lose sight of what the club stands for.

Response from the Club:

Many thanks for leaving a review. The Bistro team have been in touch to pass on their apologies that unfortunately on this occasion they did not meet your expectations. As explained to the customers at the bistro that evening, an agency chef was covering the kitchen due to holidays and as such diners could expect a delay, but we apologise for the inconvenience. As you can see from previous reviews, your experience is not the norm and we sincerely apologise this impeded your enjoyment of your stay. The team will learn from your feedback and will strive to avoid it happening again in the future.

We have used all three of the clubs eateries, and have never "booked?  "  a table but it as stated that all meals are cooked when ordered and to expect delays at busy times, and we did have to wait quite a time at Hillhead on one occasion when they had only one chef  because of sickness but it was explained

Why not Alan?

We spend much time on sites with restaurants, rarely use them but they are there for us on the odd occasion we want them such as after packing up for a big  move or arriving after a long day. Nobody is forced to use them . The Percy Hobbs pub at the entrance to Morn Hill was a loss to us as we found it much more useful than the furniture shop that replaced it but if a pub doing food in the entrance lane to a caravan site cant go on  then it looks questionable whether these CAMC restaurants can succeed either

Could it be that as some say club prices are expensive? the sites with club houses may be "subsidised " by site fees as they are on most comercial sites

I rarely use a facility where I am staying. When abroad we have often had an apartment with a restaurant attached but prefer to find somewhere with a better menu. Same in UK generally

WHen away in the caravan we almost never eat out of an evening as I am happy to cook.

When abroad we usually eat out of an evening, and for me that usually means fish or shellfish/crustacean etc. If we have had a particularly busy day then mixed meats, cheese, apple slices and bread or similar on the balcony/patio.
