Buck Up Caravan Club

The CC is resting on its laurels here. It relies on hardworking, friendly wardens to manage a very nice site - and they do work hard. You can't make a silk purse out of a sows ear though and this is one club site desperate for a revamp. It isn't cheap, so there should be more than enough revenue coming in to fund an upgrade. The toilet block facilities are tired to say the least and overrun relative to the number of pitches. The wardens run the office until 10.30am, then make the best of the toilet block until 12pm before presumably grabbing a sandwich before the onslaught of arrivals at 1pm (or earlier for those who either can't read or choose to ignore the arrival time). All in all, a lovely site in a nice part of gods own county, but come on CC - start earning your membership subs and overpriced pitch fees.

Two weeks in August

Tongue OutI was here for two weeks at the start of the school Hollidays, we arrived just after 1pm as stated on the web site and had no issues with booking in, I would go as far as to say the wardens there should be training the rest on them, the site was always clean and tidy, we could only just hear the farmers generator from our pitch 44' so that wasn't a issue, the play park could do with up dating as its a little small and old but the kids still enjoyed it, the toilet block was always clean (male) my wife did say the lady's was not very good but I'm guessing this was just due to some people that were there when we were there, the bistro food was great and the Sunday roast wast great, the toilet block could de with a refurb as its looking a bit dated compared with some of the other sites, there needs to be a door hook on the washing up room door as its way to hot in there, also the club could save some money by turning the hot water temp down a bit as its way to hot to the point it will burn you, the site is located well to explor the area and is only 30 mins from York, will I be going back? May be but the site is a little small for us with 3 kids they like a bigger play area, but over all it's a great little site and don't be put off by some of the comments on here, the wardens made this Holliday for me with there common sence approach to their management of the site it make a welcome change and other wardens could take do with adopting some of their ways of working

GF food!!!

We found the warden to be very cheerful & welcoming on arrival. The 1pm arrival time was clearly stated in CC info so was not a problem for us. We were pleasantly suprised by the bistro & had an excellent Sunday roast which was made gluten free for one of us who has coeliac disease. The chef was helpful and knowledgeable about this. They also had GF syrup sponge which looked delicious (it wasn't shared!). There is some generator noise from the farm adjacent, but this doesn't go on for too long & wasn't a problem for us. The toilet block was well cleaned each day but unfortunately some people who were staying at the time don't seem to clean up after themselves so by the morning the facilities were not as nice as they could have been. We used the laundry facilites too, which were very clean & in good order. As others have mentioned, the play area is not particularly well equipped & definitely needs an upgrade. We would return to stay here again.

School holiday visit

The location around the campsite was beautiful certainly didn't disappoint with plenty to do in the area. I didn't find the site best for young families as the playground was very disappointing and as I had my grandchildren with me this was a shame. The toilet block was obviously very well used as it was not kept very clean which is most unusual for club sites, on a couple of occasions it prevented me from using the facilities. The wardens were quite helpful but the arrangement for arrivals caused a big headache for staff and arrivals maybe a different plan would work better giving a better first impression. Overall I think these problems would not prevent me from visiting again but maybe out of school holiday times with no grandchildren.

Lovely little site

We have family living in Harrogate so this site is ideal for us to use as a base. The lady warden seemed very pleasant although once booked in I didn't really go into the office. Site kept very well indeed. Toilet block very clean - showers could be updated a little but perfectly acceptable. Again it is a pity that some members do not respect the clean facilities on offer. I can't understand why people don't clean up after themselves. We didn't have children so can't rate the good for families. Overall a nice quiet site

Dissapointed

Recently stayed for a three night break. On arrival the site entrance was barricaded off with a sign stopping entry until 1pm. The CC site guide quotes an arrival time of 12pm, so upon arrival at 12.15 we were denied entry and had to drive around some very tight back roads until 1pm. However I must say that all sites ought to follow this practice of stopping early entries. Some people arrive long before they should, just to try and get the best pitches causing Wardens undoubted work. Just advertise the same entry time in all your literature. On arrival we were met with a very rude Warden in reception, the lady did not want to answer any of our questions, shoved a leaflet at us about a Bistro that was fully booked? and told us to" come back later, I'm busy!" We paid £95 for a pitch for three nights. When I am asked to pay a premium to stay on site during the school holidays I expect a premium service. I do not expect to be spoken to in this manner. The site is fine by the way, good facilities ,always clean etc etc.

Yorkshire Day visit - don't forget the Bistro!

We have been to this site a couple of times now but we stayed 3 nights this time. We had a great corner pitch. The wardens are friendly and helpful and do an amazing thankless job :). We went to the Bistro on the Saturday night - what a fabulous time was had by all. Singers FAB - great entertainment with a Deal or no Deal game. Supper was provided. A HUGE success - every site should have a little den like this :) We went back to sample Sunday lunch and that was great also. Every site should have a 'Chris' (Bistro manager) Agreed the play facilities are limited - would benefit the site to upgrade these but in terms of cleanliness, friendliness and a real good time - can't fault it! Easy access to Knaresborough so took the boys swimming and had the obligatory wander round the pubs and shops. Taxi service was wonderful too :) A great place to visit :)

Reasonable site

We stayed at Knaresborough, mid week during July en-route to a festival. We had a long trip down from the North of Scotland and used this as a staging point, as it was reasonably handy for the A1 and an hour away from our final destination. We had a warm welcome and the facilities up to the usual high standard and clean, admittedly they are not the most modern compared to some sites but still good. A number of pitches were available to choose from, we selected one near the entrance, however there was some minor road noise from passing traffic, this would not be an issue further into the site. Having the Bistro on site was an unexpected bonus, (I had not read that bit in the guide). The food was of reasonable quality and reasonably priced, the beer reasonable quality. Our 7 year old was disappointed with the play area that looked neglected and worn out, there were no swings to play on, some monkey bars, climbing frame and slide, unlike other CC sites this was poor. During our two night stay we visited Light Water Valley which was a good family day out which was close by, this was busy but the queues for most rides were acceptable and it offered value for money. Overall a good site to stay at and I would be tempted to use it again if we visit the area again. I cant comment on the arrivals time as I arrived after 4, but a 1pm arrival time is acceptable, the wardens need to clean the facilities and keep on top of the site grassed areas. They also need to eat so I can understand why an arrival time of 1pm is stated. Access road from Knaresborough is steep and tight and may be an issue for large units.

My 6 year review

My wife and I have visited the Knaresborough site 3 or 4 times each year for the past 6 years and I take issue with the negative comments of some members. The check in time is 1pm yet I have observed numerous members arriving at 12.15. If the check in time was mid day would they arrive at 11.15am? Why do certain members think it doesn't apply to them? As for the bistro what do people want what's more where do they normally go when they eat out. I have just come out of the bistro after ANOTHER excellent meal for the prices charged. Two courses each two pints and a large glass of wine for £35 when I consider that just this morning I paid over £9 for two coffees and two scones in Knaresborough I ask  the simple question what do you think represents good value. The new wardens on the site and the bistro staff are doing an excellent job on behalf of us all. Instead of unwarranted criticism why not try supporting them instead. You might find you get a little more for your dollar! To those considering a visit to Knaresborough ask yourself the simple question "Why is it always fully booked?" The reason is self explanatory. Oh and be considerate to the wardens arrive after 1pm.

Not what it once was

Stayed end July 2015 , We have not visited here for a couple of years and we did not enjoy the return. Why we couldn't get on site till 13.00 hours beats me ?? I am sure someone will make up a reason to suit themselves but there were a number of outfits running round narrow lanes trying to kill an hour. This is a pain if moving from another site !. The road from Knaresborough to site contains a section uphill and narrow that can be tricky for larger motorhomes if a bus or outfit is coming downhill .The facilities are getting a bit tired, The bistro menu was ok but most of what was mentioned was unavailable the food was poor quality and value and I do not appreciate eating in places were dogs are allowed free access, will not visit again . Buses are available outside the site to Knaresborough or Ripon which are always worth a visit, Buses from Kn to Harrrogate run every 10 mins. Sorry will not be doing an "Arnie" I wont be back !
