Good for families

VERY BIG SITE

We have just visited this site and were so disappointed. Do not be misled this site is on quite a substantial slope in places, and has many tight turns to navigate. It is a large site with about 140 plots, and is full of families. If you are looking for peace and quiet this is not a site for you it is very busy with people and caravans in quite close proximity. The toilet/shower blocks are not always close to your caravan and can involve a good walk to and from up steep slopes, not the best if you have to rely on pot washing and showers. We have a 50' unit and rang in advance to enquire about booking, we were assured that it would be fine. When we arrived it was on the hottest day of the year and they decided to put us at the furthest point away from reception!! Not sure if this is because we own a Hobby caravan. We to navigate the site over tiny bridges and sharp turns with absolutely no room for error, fortunately my partner drives large vehicles for a living and just managed to get us through. We arrived at our site only to fine two other caravans had blocked the access off, leaving us just a 9' gap to get an 8' wide caravan through which had to be reversed into as it was at the top of a cul-de-sac. My partner tried to reverse through but the clutch was burning and smelling as he couldn't get any grip due to the steep slope and the gravel. Went back to reception and they then offered us a plot right at the bottom of the site, next to the river!!!! WHY NOT HAVE GIVEN US THIS AT THE BEGINNING!!! However by this time it was late evening and I have poor health anyway, but after all the trouble trying to sort out the navigation on site, we decided enough was enough and that it was way to late to try and set up that night, so we asked for a refund. They charged us £60 to literally try to park the caravan and have a drive through the site!!! What a rip off. So disappointed with their attitude especially as they are part of the caravan club. I went into the shop to cancel and was so hot and poorly and had to buy some cold water, they charged me 75p for a bottle of water on top of everything else!! Talk about money driven. I would not recommend this site to anyone wanting a quiet time its great for families but make sure you check it out before you book. We have learnt a very expensive lesson, that not all site owners are very understanding or bothered about their visitors. Even having rung to let them know we would have a very long unit, they showed no consideration as to our location, and we feel that because of our ringing beforehand that they bear some responsibility to our leaving and as such should not have charged us as much to cancel.

we have visited twice and yes some of the pitches are so steep that leveling ramps are not big enough to level our motorhome! and gravel just slides them out  and very tight bends

You did well to be offered a choice of two pitches to accomodate a 50' unit, when the maximum size given for the site is 8 meters!

I can't think of any site where the wardens are given free supplies for them to distribute to visitors.  They buy the stock in with their own money.

I Would be interested to know what model of Hobby caravan is 50 feet long?

In the official Hobby brochure their longest van the Landhaus is 9.136m the equivalent of 29.9737 feet.

Unless this van has had a 20 foot extension that would make it longer than an articulated truck I will take this review with a pinch of salt and an over exaggeration  (a statement that represents something as better or worse than it really is), just like their 50 ft. van.

Their van weight would virtually double at 4.4 tonnes making it illegal on the road unless towed by a heavy goods vehicle. As stated in a previous review the max length on pitches at Kendal is 8 meters or 26.2467 feet so why would they attempt to reside there with a juggernaut?
