Picturesque and peaceful

If your looking for a quiet, pretty site near to amenities then here it is. This was our first visit and we found the site outstanding. The wild garlic was out and the pitches were surrounded in white flowers. Yes there was a pungent smell in the air but it didn't spoil anything. There is a river running along the bottom of the site and loads of buildings that used to be used in the making of gun powder. There are a lot of pitches near to the river but they were all cordoned off which I thought strange. We later found out that these were kept free for weekenders, single nights and large outfits but the warden's did start allowing people to pitch on them. Really annoying when you arrive before them and would have liked one of those pitches as you were staying for 3 nights. Saying that we did find our perfect pitch and would stay on that specific one again if we could. The wardens are really helpful and friendly and the onsite shop has some good provisions. Afternoon tea for 2 for £4.00 with 2 scones, clotted cream and preserves was an absolute bargain. The shop also sell a selection of walks for the area leaving from the campsite. We did 2 of them, one through the Deer Park and one up to the Helm. A great site with an abundance of things to do in the local area.
