Kendal a forest site with history
We selected Kendal for its location within the Lake District. It's location gives you ample choice for days out. Located a short distance from the M6 also allows for those longer journeys. The site is full of history, being located on an old explosives factory site there are still remnants of the old buildings, and the site team have prepared a book you can borrow to read and explore the ruins. The pitches are located throughout the forest, some in the shade and grouped together, there are a few pitches that are classed as super pitches, if you select one of these then you may need an extension hose, we needed some 20 m of hose, which fortunately we had. If you do not have the extra hose the site will sell you the extra, but would advise take extra with you. The toilet blocks are acceptable, but I think there could be more, at weekends you would struggle to use the facilities. When we first arrived the site team greeted us with warmth and were very friendly and explained in great detail the layout and routes to take, nothing was to much for them. The site shop was not up to much, as the stock was minimal, but the fresh produce, eggs, bread, rolls and the addition of the cream teas did make up for it. There is a farm shop just as you enter the site, but it's a very expensive place to shop. The roads into the site need some TLC as there were some bad potholes, as long as no one came the other way you could avoid them. My advice on entering the site is make sure you arrive after 1200hrs, there is no way 2 caravans can pass. We would visit again, as we loved the peace and quiet, the bird song was a beautiful sound to wake up to.
