A great base.
This is not your usual Caravan Club type of site. No serried rows of vans in your car park style format. Pitches are sympathetically contoured into forest glades giving the site far more character. Because of the way in which pitches have been created there is a great variety both in size and amount of cover provided by trees. You’ll need levelling blocks on some pitches and take care of the overhanging trees if you don’t want an increased volume of noise on the roof when the rain arrives. We found this site to be a great location and enjoyed several walks directly from the site. Try walking along the river into Kendal or if you carry on through Kendal you can pick up the Dales Way which for the more avid walker can take you all the way to Windemere although that would be about a 15 mile walk directly from the site.
Can recommend the Strickland Arms for quality and price and also the farm shop next door which amongst other goodies sells raw milk on draught so just take your container and fill up. Delicious.
We would use this site in the Spring and Autumn mainly because it’s not a site for sitting about on, there’s no views other than trees, and there is some road noise from the nearby A591. But as a very attractive site with the usual high standard of facilities and a good location to access all parts of the Lake District area, top marks. Thanks as always to the wardens who work so hard on behalf of members to ensure our stay on sites is made as comfortable as possible.
