Spacious green site
As we like the minimal facility sites, I've considered booking before, and been slightly deterred by apparent slopes. That was a misperception as it's not hard to find somewhere level - didn't even have to use leveliing blocks. It looks green too, which is always good if the ground is firm and having had one overnight of incessant rain while there, it seems to drain well enough not to require a hardstanding. The abundance of green space is a delight, and much more appealing than the gravelly style the club seems to favour. Its open nature on high ground does mean the availability of shelter is not as good as some sites, but 'swings and roundabouts'.
Access to Ilfracombe means a short drive. Like many coastal towns it's not all glam but the town and harbour and well worth a visit. What you make of the 'cooling tower' theatre or Damien Hirst's "Verity" will depend upon your taste but the coast is pretty spectacular. On our visit, while the winds blew and showers fell back at the caravan site, it was sunny and warm in the valley below.
Our visit was just two nights, but I reckon we'll be back.
