Hurn Lane Last Minuet Booking

We tried to book a last minute break in Mid October intending to stay at the Caravan and Motor Home Club sites at Cheddar or Chew valley only to discover they were fully booked. Looking at the availability on the website we decided to try the Hurn Lane site outside of Burnham on Sea. It turned out to be a reasonable choice. If you like a site with views this is not perhaps the site you would choose, however as a base for the exploring the surrounding area or walking miles along an open beach with the dogs it is an excellent choice. A well laid out and spotlessly clean site, it has 82 well positioned hardstanding pitches with electricity points, including a number of fully serviced pitches available for longer stays. For people who prefer grass pitches there are a number available but at this time of year hardstanding is the only sensible choice in my view. The sanitary blocks are very good, good showers with individual cubicles for washing and shaving. The chemical waste disposal point generous in size and well thought out, with pull flush, hose pipe, and a well-positioned container to place your screw cap. (I only wish every site had a container to put the cap in while emptying the chemical toilet as I always have an irrational fear I will knock the cap off the side of the disposal point, only to see it disappear down the drain) The site has friendly dedicated staff who take pride in their work, providing us with an immaculately kept site, they also provide a small shop for essentials, such as milk, bread, newspapers etc and If you need a wider range a quick trip down the road finds a well-stocked co-op to meet your needs. A short walk down the lane and across the main road, brings you to the dunes and a path to the beach. Dog friendly, and miles of empty sand (when the tides out) you can turn left and walk along the sand to Burnham on Sea (3 Miles). The sea here is part of the Severn Estuary and experiences very strong tides so the sea always looks a dirty brown muddy colour (definitely not Mediterranean). However, you can enjoy bracing sea air, open views across to the Hinckley Point nuclear power station and the coast stretching away in the distance to Minehead, Linton, and Ilfracombe.
