Disappointing

We have just spent 10 nights at Hurn Lane with our little Tibetan Spaniels. The dog walk is dreadful, so tiny. We usually use Cirencester Park a lot where the dog walk is fantastic as we can let the dogs off the lead and they have a good run round. Since we arrived there has been dog mess in the dog walk twice where people are too lazy to clean up despite there being a bin close by and signs on the gate. On the Sunday there were fireworks from an adjacent site. Although this only lasted about 10 minutes our dogs were absolutely traumatised, it was so close it sounded like a bomb had gone off. When we opened the door to see where they were going off we could hear other dogs crying because of the fireworks. It was a dreadful night. Although the site is kept very tidy It does need a larger area for dogs. We saw many people walking their dogs across grass as there is nowhere to give them a good walk unless you go off site where there is no paths and blind corners.

I guess most people exercise their dogs by day on the nearby beach so an on site dog walk is only needed for first thing mornings and last thing at night.

Tbh, I’m not sure there’s space to create a bigger dog walk unless pitches or the play area are sacrificed.

I think it very unfair to base a large part of your review on what is outside the control of this site. i.e fireworks at a nearby site. Maybe you should be contacting the nearby site to explain the impact they are having on their neighbours. Would be much more constructive and fair.

Have spoken to wardens at Hurn Lane regarding fireworks they were very understanding. Have also contacted other site and suggest they contact surrounding sites prior to letting fireworks off. We have been running an animal establishment for 17 years and have seen the distress it can cause to animals.

Also when we spoke to the wardens they said they usually know in advance about the fireworks but this time they weren’t informed. Had we known we would have put our dogs in the car and got them away from it. I don’t know if you were here last Sunday and heard it but speaking to guests with dogs the following morning they all felt the same as us.

Hurn Lane is a lovely peaceful site and long may it stay that way.
