Expected far worse.
We only read the reviews for the site THREE days before arrival. Have to say we were more than a little concerned to read that it is smack next door to a travellers site, and, there is excessive noise through people shouting and barking dogs. This i didnt doubt.
On arriving, we passed said traveler site, and pulled into HM. Have to say the staff were very friendly and informative. Going through how to park various units on pitch through a 'double marker post' system - one blank, one numbered, that i had not seen before. More on this later.
I immediately saw, on looking at the site map, that the grass pitch we had booked was about as far away as you could get from the next door 'camp', and on a lower level behind a tree-lined bank. Consequently, we heard very little noise from anywhere. And were even sheltered from what were some pretty strong lashing gales on a couple of days. I could well understand how others, on hardstanding pitches at the front of HM, would be just yards from the traveller site, and get the 'full force' - whatever that turned out to be. Essentially, we got pitched according to how we had been directed twixt 2 markers - or so we thought.
Only once we had got the legs down and hooked up, did the chap from the motorhome next door - who must have watched us getting it wrong, deem fit to come a-knocking, gleefully to tell us how things should be under pain of being moved once spotted by the staff. So, thanks for that!
Anyway, we re-pitched, and all was then well. On the 'marker posts', my suggestion would be to clearly mark the 'number posts' on the sheet that is handed out, as opposed to just 2 blank posts.
We found the site to be peaceful, handy for Wareham - a thriving town with everything you'd want, and the basic facilities - water waste etc. at acceptable distances. We also used the laundry room to good effect. There is a 'pie guy' rolls up one tea time - which were excellent, and also a pizza guys, and a pancake guy, but we didnt try these.
What we did try was the Silent Woman pub a few hundred yards down the road, which had excellent food at reasonable prices. The staff here were great as well. Somewhere else we went to was Swanage, and nearby Studland Bay. Both brilliant for days out. We would return again if visiting the area.
