Winter visit

Good site in foul weather - no waterlogging or vehicle access problems. Disabled facilities very good for wheelchair user. Good access for lovely dog walking in Wareham Forest, with a handy & secure gate from the site onto the adjoining bridleway (although the neighbouring council-run site is a bit of an eyesore when seen from the path). The local heathland soil is sandy and dries fast, so doesn't get too claggy in winter. The view from the top of Woolbury Hillfort was well worth the walk! No TV reception, but our aerial is never very good, and I've never bothered to take advantage of the coax plugin at the hookup, so no complaint. Site was full on arrival (last day of half-term) and felt it, but emptied out rapidly when the kids went back to school. Staff were a bit picky about lining up with the pegs on the pitch, but given how full the site was that was understandable, and again, no complaint. The local pub, the Silent Woman, is a gem - lovely food and friendly hosts (dogs welcome in the bar, but kids not admitted). Good base for exploring East Dorset - we easily covered Dorchester, Weymouth, Swanage, Wareham, Poole and Blandford in four days. The location combines being in the middle of a large forest with ready access to the main through routes to the West & North. We extended our stay, and would happily go back.
