Hunters Moon, 3rd Review over 3 years
This was our longest stay yet of 21 nights (we'd have stayed longer) , last year was 20 days
the site is well equipped to deal with both Caravans & Motorhomes, plenty of water/waste points, good access to almost all pitches (for Motorhomes), 2 well appointed amenity blocks and a small shop for the basics (bread/milk etc) .....
The Wardens are your first contact so it's nice if you're greeted with a smiling face, Mick/Angie the wardens on this site do just that, they actually seem happy to see you (not so sure they're quite so keen by the end of the three weeks mind)
Site is large & perfect for both families and for those travelling by themselves (no children) there are the grass pitches on the lower part, some are quite close (very close) to the children’s play area and some quite a distance from them (be advised if you're not wanting to hear children playing/enjoying themselves don't pitch close to the Play area, some members pitched next to the play area seemed not to like Children playing/making noise but then proceeded to make as much noise themselves late into the night, go figure.
The entire site is very well maintained, it's is free from litter, there is a large dog walking area with bins, the hard standing pitches are clean/spacious, the amenity blocks are left immaculate by the wardens each morning (Mind you, their choice of music, Radio2 to accompany you in the shower? No! The thought of Jeremy Vine in my ears as I'm showering, yuk! (this may be an exaggeration as I tend to shower in the early hours and it's Sara Cox)
Two minor gripes this year, one ongoing, the wI-fI is dire, I paid for Air Angel but may as well not have bothered, the upload/download I was seeing 0.10mb, not fast enough to upload my daily medical results, so had to go out most nights after midnight to get a signal on my mobile, I get why the broadband is poor due to site location/lack of lines into the site, but don't understand why Air Angel cannot provide a better Wi-Fi signal around the site.
The other is the assistant warden 'Graham' (Dawn his partner was lovely) he's obviously gaining his stripes/newish but needs to calm down and fine tune his mannerisms, marching in to our friends awning with his face up front to a 70yr old man to complain about his dog (unwarranted) or hunting me down on site for what he states was my 'speeding' (thankfully I use an app which record/logs my speed, it was 4mph) is not good, but overall he was ok, just perhaps a little 'enthusiastic' in his remit as assistant warden
The Club should provide the wardens with speed guns, not to police but to maybe record the speed and play it back to the speeder with a 'you think you maybe should slow down a little? common sense and all that.
Hunters Moon is an excellent place to pitch and go explore Dorset,
Thanks to Mick & Angie for help making our 2018 summer stay the success that it was.
See you next year (bet you can't wait)
