Full marks for Hunters Moon!

What a wonderful site! We received a warm welcome from the temporary wardens who were really helpful and friendly. We chose pitch 32 which is nicely tucked away in the corner by the washrooms, backing on to the path leading down to the rear gate into Wareham Forest and the path to the play area and dog field. It was a nice, quiet site, with morning visits from the pheasants and evening visits from the owls. We were worried that, in winter, it would be a bit shaded by the trees but it was fine - we even managed to sit in the afternoon sunshine a couple of times. However, I probably wouldn't want this pitch in the summer unless we had our grandchildren with us, as it could possibly get busy with passing traffic of children on their way to the play area. In the winter it was fairly quiet and secluded, apart from the dog owners who tramped across our pitch - if we'd put the awning up I swear some would have walked through it! We are dog owners and if it irritated us, it would really annoy those without! The dog field was excellent, with a wooded area for kicking up the leaves and playing hide the ball! We saw lots of birds here, including jays. The showers and toilets were spotless (apart from when used by those who have not mastered the art of using a toilet brush!) and 99% of the time I saw no-one else in there. Not sure if anyone else does this, but I always take my own bath mat - saves cold feet or dried feet becoming wet again. We tried The Silent Woman but weren't overly impressed - the pub and staff were very nice, but the food wasn't really that good. However, go down to Wareham Market on a Saturday and try the filo pies which are amazing. We recommend RSPB Arne with the walk down to Shipstal Beach, and Tyneham Village - both wonderful! Thank you to the lovely couple who helped by opening the gate to let in the ambulance when my husband fell ill on our last night. At 11pm it was so kind of you, and I'm sorry we didn't see you before we left but I hope you got my note. A wonderful site, wonderful weather (sunny but cold) and one of the best weeks we have had so far.
