Nice Butr a Bit Crowded

Having stayed at 2 sites near H o T this year we decided to try the club site for a change. Having read the reviews I was hoping to get a pitch opposite the road not backing on to it. Luckily that was what I got. Towing is easy but the site itself is a bit tight for bigger modern units with some of the pitches sort of squeezed in to maximize the area. Not all power points have TV access, ours did not, but I had no issues in getting the usual Freeview cluster I would expect. Easy stroll into town, about 20 mins to the center. A taxi back from the station range was £7:00. The site is wrapped around at the rear by the overflow from Swiss Farm next door so there is a bit of late night kids and adults noise that you can do nothing about. One big help from the Club would be the inclusion of a Local Dog Friendly Activity and Restaurant Guide. Some of the upmarket concierge sites are now doing this and it is a great help as a huge number of us take our pooch along these days.

Meeting Friends

Great site, Very Clean, Easy walk into Henley, yes there is road noise but you forget the noise after a while, Great Wardens who work hard to keep it clean and tidy! We will be back when the price goes back down and after the school holidays!

Don't be put off by the reports of road noise

Just come back from a long weekend at this site, we used it as a base to visit friends in Sonning & Henley. I read all the report about the road noise but now having stayed there, and on a pitch not that far from the road. it's not that bad in my opinion. I'd use the site again. Nice neat, clean site, Wardens seemed nice enough, shop sells papers, meat, eggs, milk etc. TV via hook up to EHU points is fine. Average phone signal on EE but I had 4G all the time. No Dog walk on site just a fenced area to toilet them. There is a nice dog walk just down the road towards Henley via a public footpath that leads down to the river. Be aware you can't get into Henley this way though. You do need to cross the road as soon as you walk off site and the Pavement is narrow. There also seemed to be a good bus service operating. If you are having second thoughts about this site because of the noise reports I would say try it like we did and you may be surprised. The wardens told us it's always booked up so it can't be that bad.

Great location

The site itself is lovely and very well kept, there are just a few minor things (already mentioned by other reviewers) that would make it perfect. The surroundings are fab, mature trees on the site and surrounding it and it is a very quiet site in terms of the spacing of the pitches and the people it appears to be popular with. The road alongside the site is very busy and there is audible road noise through the day, although it didn't disturb my enjoyment of the site and definitely didn't disturb my sleep. We'd hoped to cycle from the site into town, but the speeds of the cars on the road meant it didn't feel safe - I realise this isn't within the control of the site, it's just maybe worth noting for anyone who wouldn't be confident cycling in very fast traffic. The only other slight niggle was the only toilet block being closed between 10.30 and 12 - I know this is standard for cleaning on sites, but there do tend to be alternative facilities to use when a block is being cleaned. Otherwise it is a great location and an enjoyable place to spend a break.

What you see is what you get - Good VFM

Four Oaks is just off Marlow Road - main route to High Wycombe - but, and we come from a VERY rural Dorset village where a tractor and trailer twice a day constitutes high volume, the road noise isn't excessive. You are more likely to hear noises from the river or the alternative (higher priced) Swiss Farm site (both about 400mtres) We use it to visit family resident in the town - which itself is well serviced for food and drink - if lacking in DiY/ hardware and general household maintenance provision (son & daughter in law rely upon us fro practical jobs around their house!) Site can be congested, especially at Regatta or Festival time, but everyone has enough space around their pitch, and we've never had problems as to overcrowding. Highly recommended and a surprising amount to see / do in the villages toward Wycombe, and where you will have 'escaped' from the tourists. Take a torch if coming back late at night on the bus from Henley - there are pavements but no street lights - so the walk from Icehouse Lane (stop by Swiss Farm site) can be tricky (especially in the winter)

Good site worth a second visit.

Our first visit to the site and we stayed for 8 nights. We will definitely visit again. Difficulties travelling to and from the site on arrival and departure have once again made me realise that you can't rely on the satnav when towing. Ended up on a single track coming home which was a 7 mile nightmare. Very pleased with the site which I felt encouraged a community atmosphere with some very nice areas that made a change from long lines of outfits. TV signal was great if you coupled to the electric hook up points, we managed uninterupted access to the Internet via 4g with EE and the mobile signal was also very good. We managed to walk into town in 6 minutes, but we do walk quite fast. We were on the second row back from the road so yes the noise is there but you get used to it and there are quieter pitches. We go for hard standing but the grass pitches were on nice firm soil and drained very well. Also the layout of the site allows shortcuts to the shower block without concerns you may be encroaching on someone's pitch. Lots of very friendly wildlife on site, dozens of rabbits and ducks that join you for meals if dining outside. Our stay coincided with the regatta so there was a real buzz both on the site and in the town. You can still access the Thames path during the regatta and can take your own picknic and sit in some very key areas and enjoy. We also cycled along the Thames to marlow, which is a very easy ride. A great break on a nice site and has stated we will be returning.

Noisy!!!!

The good: Beautiful site, kept spotlessly clean by friendly and responsive staff. Great location for walk into Henley and for walks alongside the Thames. The bad: Noise. Hugely busy road right by the site. From early morning to quite late at night, expect traffic noise. Overnight, this dies down. You may also hear planes using Heathrow. On the Saturday night we were there, there was also an impromptu rave near the river which kept going pretty late. We actually quite enjoyed the music. Some people might not have.

Next To Very Busy And Noisy Road

We followed the directions on the website from the M40. The main issue is that the A4155 from Marlow to the site is very busy with HGV' s, buses and is quite narrow in places with lots of overhanging trees and bushes. On checking in we were met by the very friendly and professional wardens. The site was very busy when we arrived, so we ended up with one of the hard standing pitches next to the road. The wardens did warn us about the road noise and did point out some grassed pitches away from the road, these were in the shade so it was a compromise. We'd read the reviews about the road noise but had we have known how bad the noise was we would have taken a shaded pitch. The site is clean and looks well managed. Following a day of strong winds the staff were out working hard clearing up leaves and branches. The toilets and showers were very clean. As the leaflet states TV signal is poor. We couldn't get a satellite TV signal, more than likely because of the tall trees within and surrounding the site. Mobile phone coverage was average. We did just about get a 3G signal with Three and a weak 4G signal with EE. The site has a gold rating for WiFi, which worked well. The site is ideally situated for visiting the local area. It was a 10-15 minute walk into Henley on Thames. As others say the pavement is narrow with overgrown hedges. On leaving the purpose built pedestrian exit to the site you walk along a narrow pavement for a few yards before the pavement stops. You are then forced to cross a road just after a bend to join the pavement on the other side of the road. It's impossible to see around the bend so it's very risky when crossing. There is no way that the majority of motorists, including HGVs and buses stick to the 40mph speed limit. There are no signs warning motorists that pedestrians cross the road or that there is an entrance to the site (yet a private touring site closer to Henley on Thames has such signage and it is in a 30mph limit). I have emailed the Club about my concerns and to ask that they contact the relevant Local Authority for a site safety survey to be completed. On the walk into Henley on Thames, about 5 minutes from the site, there is a public footpath on the left (opposite Swiss Farm) which takes you down to the River Thames, but you cannot get into Henley on Thames itself on this footpath. This is ideal for a dog walk as the on site dog exercise area is tiny. As others mentioned there is a lovely walk through Henley to Marsh Locks. On this walk there are lots of cafes. We enjoyed the Hot Gossip Cafe in Friday Street. There is a good sized Waitrose and local Sainsburys in the town. Parking at Waitrose is in a public car park, Waitrose will refund the parking charges off your bill. The local fuel stations certainly have the market cornered which shows in their fuel prices, so it's well worth filling up elsewhere. Would we stay again? Probably not, the reasons - road safety and road noise.

Recent visit and traumatic events

We visit Henley Four Oaks 4 or 5 times a year, Henley is my wife Wendy's favourite town in the UK. Our visit visit this year was the first week of May, we settled in to our normal routine having met the new wardens Richard and Tracey on arrival. Saturday came around and we decided on a lazy day, around 4.30 I took our Yorkshire terriers a walk separately as usual, the dog wanted to van straight away most unusual. I found my wife crumpled half on the bed and the floor with her eyes rolling. I ran to the office for help, Richard called an ambulance and relayed details of Wendy's condition to ambulance control. Within minutes a paramedic arrived and diagnosed a stroke. An ambulance had her to Reading witin15 minutes. Whilst at the hospital Richard and Tracey secured my motorhome and took care of the dogs. On my return Richard and Tracey spent time with me and had fed and walked the dogs. During the next few days they kept an eye on me together with Bill and Carole who were off site on the Saturday. So a big thank you from Wendy and myself for your care and attention at a difficult time. Wendy was transfered Nottingham and is making progress every day and should make a good recovery. Thank you we hope to see you soon
