Wet Weekend

This site was OK. We would return as the town was very convenient and nice and there are also lots of places you can go by train or bus. Road noise doesn't normally bother us but it was quite annoying. It maybe because of the very bad rain we had while we were there. We were told to go on the pitch we were on when we arrived, this may have been because we arrived about 7pm and it was very dark so I am guessing they were trying to be helpful, which in a way is good but we would have preferred a pitch further away from the road. Not sure if this was available on this occasion but whenever we return we would make sure we go for longer and get there earlier so that we had some choice. Due to the bad weather on the Saturday we asked on the Sunday morning if we could park in the car park which was quite big tbh. We were however told no because they were full! This was a little disappointing as we weren't asking to stay on the pitch until 2-3pm just to use the car park that was almost empty! When it is going to rain take your wellies to get to the toilet block as the water just sits there and doesn't drain away so you have no choice but to walk through it or go on the sodden grass which doesn't do that any good.

Great location and great staff

Positives: Location is great, just a short walk (20 mins) into Henley-on-Thames, nearby nice bike rides and walks. Friendly helpful staff. Excellent facilities. Negatives: Only one, the road noise, you get acustomed to it although it's rather intrusive.

First Visit

We stayed here four nights as part of our current tour and were not disappointed. A great site with first class facilities. The wardens were very hard working, Constantly on the go but always had time for a friendly exchange. The road adjacent to the site is very busy and visitors should be aware. We found plenty to do and see in this very interesting and charming part of the world. The Chantry House is well worth a visit..

First outing

Our first stay at a caravanclub site (previous night- our first ever in a caravan, was at a CL). Despite arriving at about 1.30pm in early September in lush weather conditions, we found a pitch right at the back of the site, which meant no road noise. I can understand why people say the front pitches are noisy...the drivers do seem to ignore the 40mph limit, especially in their rush to work/school in the mornings - I guess we were lucky in finding a quiet spot. Poor terrestrial TV reception didn't bother us ( booster is available), as we have satellite dish on our caravan. The natives seemed very friendly (wardens as well as fellow campers!) - our two dogs were surprisingly quiet and relaxed. Absolutely exhausted after spending last day walking from camp to Henley to Marlow in glorious sunshine. Be warned, the "Black Boys Inn" pub (where I was desperate for a pint) means you divert off the Thames Path, and then you find its only open on weekends! (we were there Wednesday!!!). I literally cried and dropped to my knees. Ho hum, the Olde Bell in Hurley came to my rescue. An excellent experience with this campsite.

You can't please all the people all the while.

Second time we've stayed at Henley now & enjoyed both times immensely. Fortunate enough to park in the middle grass section away from the roadside, which to be fair, can be noisy especially at peak times. That's the risk you take, sorry. Wardens super friendly & always had a smile, seemed to be always doing something, well done you. Shower block spotlessly clean, all in all a great site with the added bonus of a walk into Henley [or cycle]. If you've got bikes cycle down to the river in the town & head towards Reading, towpath gets a bit rough but manageable. Watch the lock keepers at work enroute is fascinating. Cycle the other way towards Marlow [across the bridge in Henley] for peace & quiet. Henley is a gorgeous town with everything you need, coffee shops, supermarkets & restaurants [even tried Wetherspoons & actually was very good]. We'll be back at some point to visit this charming site.

Never again

Very disappointed at being parked by the road. Although we were told we could move away from the horrendous traffic noise the next day and found several free pitches, the staff refused. Other people seemed to pre book. Surely that is no right. Offered to pay more, that no good either. Campsite next door is set back from the road, closer to town, has the bus stop outside and a small restaurant on site. No comparison, why use this club site?

Good for walking into Henley

Nice clean site with very well kept grounds and facilities, walking distance to Henley, but very busy road to cross near a bend so care needed, but over all lovely stay,

Another great week at Henley.

Once again we had another lovely week here. Reception very quick booking in. Like we all do on these sites, looking for that right pitch. And they were all tidy and well looked after. WiFi hit and miss at the top of site. Although over the bank holiday found site to be lovely and quite. Showers spotless. Walk into Henley almost every day. But as temp. Was in the 30’s did drive couple of times. Go to Waitrose car park, £1.60 for three hours more than enough time. You want good food try Hart Street Tavern. Great food and good staff. We will be here again next year. It really is a lovely site.

Exceptional Site Staff

The site was well located for both walking and taking the bus into Henley which we found to be a very friendly town. Our visit was made much better by the exceptional help we received from site wardens Helen and Maurice Dunne.

Not happy

Site itself is good, road noise can be loud, tv reception is very poor possibly due to trees. Just spent two weeks in Henley, on last weekend we were gently kicking a ball with 2 year old granddaughter when I was told ball games are not allowed by warden who was rather obnoxious in her approach. Families had been playing ball games all week but no one else was approached and told to stop. One family even had a volley ball net, is this game using a ball.. The wardens in my view did not really promote the ethos or aims of the caravan club, they were not really approachable, the male warden even told me to go away. There is a 5 mph speed limit around the site, quite rightly so. But the many self and electric propelled scooters went faster than 5 mph, is this really safe. My family will not use this site again.
