Good for families

Poor value for money

We stayed at Haycraft at the end of April and were shocked to be charged, as Club members, over £35 per night. The site is quiet and rural, but so are many CLs at half the price. Other than that, it has little to recommend it, for the price. The nearest bus stop is a 15 minute uphill walk away, there are no eating establishments within easy walking distance and we were not aware of any catering vans visiting the site. The grass around and between the pitches was fairly long, this may be policy to attract wildlife but it gave the site an unkempt look. The weather had been dry for some while, so plenty of opportunities for mowing. But what really lets it down is the shower and toilet block, which although clean, is very dated. There are three toilets, three washbasin cubicles and three showers for each sex. The showers in the gents ran intermittently hot and cold. Both sides had open roof lights and doors wedged open, which doesn’t make for a pleasant showering experience when the outside temperature is in single figures. One of the showers in the ladies didn’t work properly, so most preferred to queue rather than risk using it. This is a holiday area and there are plenty of good sites nearby. We walked on a public footpath through a Premier Parks site not far away. It was immaculate, with good facilities. The cost per night in the week we were there was £30, which included use of the indoor swimming pool. Enough said.
