Good for families

Our first motorhome adventure.

We arrived after dark, and with no experience were expecting to be told where to pitch but you are free to choose for yourself on this site, and as it is all grass pitches with part of the site catering for several rows, working out which white peg to line up to was our first lesson. The couple that run the site are very friendly and very helpful and they keep the toilet and shower block immaculately clean. The laundry/washing-up room looked the same although we didn't make use of it. The service facilities on site were very good and there's an information room full of useful guides etc including a file listing and reviewing eateries and takeaways that previous campers have contributed to. A blackboard outside the office details the basic provisions available for purchase. A bowl of water is provided for dogs which I should imagine was a most welcome touch for the several dog owners using this site. A chippy van comes to the site every Tuesday and Friday. We only had chips and they were pretty tasty. A portion of chips cost £2 and I noticed that a piece of cod was £4 and a sausage was £1. There's a nice pub called The Avenue a couple of hundred yards down Beattie Road opposite the site entrance. The landlord and his wife have just taken over and are considering doing food in the future. There's a bus stop on the left hand side of Beattie Road where you can catch a bus into Great Yarmouth. The stop on the other side of the road is for the bus to Caister. They run about every 15 minutes and every half an hour on a Sunday. You can buy a 'Hi 5' ticket that entitles up to two adults and three children to travel for the day. The bus driver advised us to buy one as it was cheaper than two adult returns for £8. In Caister we had a great Sunday dinner at the Castle Carvery. It's open from 12noon until 10pm and from Monday to Saturday costs £7.49. On Sundays and Bank Holidays it's £9.99. They also serve a Full English for £5.99 from 9-11am at the weekend. It was very busy so obviously a popular eating place and with a large climbing frame with slides just outside, ideal for people with kids. We were very happy with our selection of Great Yarmouth Racecourse Caravan Club Site for our first trip out in our van. Not sure we'll be staying there again but that's only because we hope to visit different places on each occasion. We do however, recommend this site to anyone.
