Never Say, Never Again.
My Wife and I have been coming to this site for eight years now, always for a full two weeks, usually start of June. Again this year, June 2022 paying £600 in advance of arrival, (we always pay for a super, fully serviced pitch and our favoured pitch always pre-booked). There is no doubt that this is a lovely site, situated in a lovely part of Scotland.
We have always loved the site and have many fond memories but in recent times the park changed ownership and frankly, we just felt taken for granted.
This year, on arrival (after a long three and a half hours drive from Ayrshire), we were greeted by a Warden (I understand to be Michael). Within the first 10 seconds I was advised twice to watch my speed (not sure what that was all about)? As is normal, we were escorted to our pitch.
Now, we have a large twin axle caravan (only a year old) and when I arrive on any site, I am very particular, depending on my assessment of the pitch, I quickly decide when I reverse the caravan or use the “four wheel motor mover”, which I paid a great deal of money for.
I stopped the car and got out (having decided that the Motor Mover was best option). Well, the Warden wanted to make a big issue and told me that I will reverse the caravan! I explained that I would use the MM but he then told me the new owner of the site doesn’t like the road being blocked? To cut a long story short, at this site previously, the warden would just leave you to get on with it, but the guy was wasting time being unreasonable and I told him to get back in his little Golf Buggy and let me get on with it! Not a good start to the holiday. I think this Warden needs some “people skills” training!
During my stay, I saw other wardens quite relaxed about this but I also witnessed other customers being forced to reverse their caravans and you could see that they were having difficulties, in and out and still out of position?
Another thing. In previous stays at the site, we always have Tesco deliver our groceries and the site were always okay allowing the delivery van to deliver to the pitch. Well not this year, apparently, you now have to meet the van down at the car park (New Site Owner Won’t Allow It), I was told. Not really a big problem and I didn’t take it personal, until the next day I saw two different supermarket vans racing about the site trying to find their customer’s pitch? So I assume they just don’t deliver to my pitch then??
All in all, my Wife and I decided it’s time for a change.
