Peaceful 2 night stay - great for dogs!
Myself, spouse and cockapoo fancied a short (local-ish) campervan break over the August BH weekend and thanks to the C&MH website’s late availability function we secured a non-serviced pitch at Grafham.
I always think a camping site experience is influenced 75% by the site/its owners and 25% by your fellow guests. I’m glad to say neither could be faulted on our trip. The site itself is relatively small, pitches are level (-ish, I did see one van with levelling blocks) and there’s a good choice of either shaded or open pitches depending on your preference. Cleanliness and neatness throughout was exemplary.
Dog (or non-dog) walking starts from the site boundary with lovely treks either toward the reservoir or into the local countryside. Note Grafham Water Reservoir itself is still a fair schlep so those with mobility or accessibility concerns may be best served by driving the couple of miles to the visitor centre.
Grafham village has a community pub (note limited opening days/hours) and shop but not much else so best to arrive fully stocked for your stay. The Indian takeaway is a brisk 10 min walk and definitely worthy of a visit.
However if you’re after a few days of flatland cycling/walking (and even lake swimming, available in a small area of the reservoir) then I would heartily recommend this site for a peaceful and friendly stop.
