gem of a site

We decided on a late break and booked in at Grafham 21st to 27th September. The site was almost full and we were offered a full service pitch which cost a few pounds more. I was a bit surprised that it was a little narrow but no awning so we were okay. The site pitches are a little untidy but so what! Its obviously a very busy place and there are only so many hours in the day. The wardens were out with the tractor and the toilet block was spotless. My answer to the moaners is, if you dont like it leave. The site sits just outside the village which has a very friendly community shop with all the usual essentials and very friendly staff who live in the village. At the end of the approach road is a right of way that leads through woodland down to Grafham Lake which was showing signs of Green/Blue algae. The dog was kept well away from it but we did see others in the water. The lake walk is around 9 miles in total but going one way leads to a cafe and bike hire place. the cafe is fine but the bike hire seemed very expensive compared to some of the places we have been to this year. Lots of good flat walking. There is a good Asian resteraunt in the village with great food but do book as it gets very busy. We visited the Steam Fayre at Kettering, spent a day wandering around Cambridge using the Park and Ride, free if you are wrinklies like us. The Warden John showed us an easy route to the Park and Ride place without getting involved with the A14 which runs about 3 miles to the north of the site. There is a resident escaped North American Long eared Owl that visits the site daily, we didn't get to see him but we were given a few feathers by the wardens which are in my Ozzie hat along with an Eagle tail feather. Loads of pictures of him in the info shed. A great smallish site with great staff both regular and temps with tons of loacl knowledge. One that we will be back to.
