Good for families

Brilliant site but too many dogs

This is a brilliant site for visiting st Ives and the surrounding area and for walking via the sand dunes to the Towans beach or alternatively you can drive to a car park and walk down a few steps to the beach. The biggest fault not only to us but others we spoke to was people using the site as a dog walk and letting dogs relieve themselves on grass near occupied pitches. It is stated that there is no dog walk on site but it is only a few minutes walk from the site to the sand dunes. This problem needs to be resolved before we would use this site again. This problem occurs on lots of sites and really needs addressing as not everyone is dog lovers (you cannot blame the dogs, it is the owners). Cannot comment on the facilities as we always use the ones in our caravan. Wardens very good.

What happened when you reported the dog fouling on site to the warden, GB?

Being an all grass site, it’s difficult to define just where the pitching area is - not that that fact excuses deliberate fouling on site but accidents happen. Did you point out to the 'offenders' that there is a back gate giving access to a lane which is even closer than the Towans? They may not have been aware of its existence.

I guess you won’t be renewing your membership as you say you won’t use this site again and, according to you, it happens on lots of sites.

As for the facilities, they are of the usual high standard found on club sites.

I seem to remember JK saying last year that they got very few complaints about dog fouling and that the bins were always pretty full when the liners were replaced. Have things gone downhill that quickly?

I think JK said something along the lines of people getting wound up about dogs on his site. Perhaps it’s more of a perceived problem rather than an actuality with it being an open all grass site.

At least there's plenty of rain in West Cornwall to wash the grass! laughing

Maybe their is an opening for sites that don’t allow dogs like Adult only sites as it seems some people will moan about everything. I for one am unaware of how to ask my dogs to wait until we are off site before they pee or poo, but as responsible owners we are always prepared to clean up so  don’t see the problem. This is our first year in The Caravan & Motorhome Club & we will not be renewing as most of the members are snobby or moaners & we don’t need them people in our life thank you.

Ah well, Sue, there are plenty of other sites but they, too, will have moaners and snobs on them. Tis life.

Tip - be aware of your dog's needs and take it to an appropriate area in good time on a short lead walking briskly and well away from items of temptation. I accept it's not quite so easy at Godrevy with only the perimeter road and all that grass.
