Very Wet June holiday 2019

We have been to this site many years running always in June or sept. The site gets very busy and crowded during school and bank holidays. It is a basic typical club site clean and tidy and just across from the main beach costal road which in places is narrow and bendy. The present wardens are fairly new and pleasant. The approach to the site incurs a fairly sharp right hand turn into the entrance and a even more sharp left hand turn on exit on to a main beach costal road. The site has two wooden gates to the entrance, the Left hand one always being closed which made entrance and exit a one way manoeuvre. ie only one vehicle could leave or enter at the same time. This caused us a nasty accident when trying to leave the site whilst a post office van was trying to squeeze into the site at the same time. Ie. as we turned sharp left on leaving the rear of the caravan swung out and hit the side of the post office van trying to get in to the site at the same time. There was nothing else we could do to avoid it. Although we complained to the club directly and the site was inspected by a club area manager we were told the gate would remain closed to STOP speeding motorists entering the site. ( namely the post office van) To our surprise this year on entering the site both gates to the site were left wide open and this was the case for our entire visit morning noon and night. Had the club not been so obstinate and awkward several years back regarding the gate we would never had our accident. I find the Caravan and Motorhome club can be very stubborn and down right awkward when it wants to be taking very little notice of club members views. The site has not changed in the 10 or more years we have been going to it although I was told by one of the present wardens that the site has recently had the toilet and shower block renovated with new water pumps fitted to improve the water pressure. I have news for the club you have wasted your money as the water pressure to the showers and sinks is still NOT good especially at busy times.

Comment from the Community Manager:

I’m sorry to have learnt of your disappointing stay. The decision to keep both gates open was to improve traffic management, this decision was taken by our current Regional Manager and seems to be working well for the site, though I am sorry to have learnt of the incident you experienced some time ago. The new toilet and shower block has been warmly received by members and feedback about these has been positive, I am sorry this wasn’t your experience and hope despite this and a wet stay you will consider a future stay when planning trips to this beautiful area of Cornwall.

Great site to stay.

We arrived at the site very early on the first day of our holiday. The wardens were friendly and welcoming and advised us to have a walk around the site and select a pitch which we did. As soon as the pitch had been mowed we were allowed on to the site to pitch up, relax and start our holiday. The facilities were kept clean throughout our stay. As was the whole site. A valid point from a previous review is that perhaps a couple more Elsan points at the more remote parts of the site would be good. But, it is hard to fault the site. The site itself and its location are excellent. Would i visit again? Yes and i intend to later in the summer. To the staff, keep up the good work.

Spring break

Had 12 nights at this fantastic site weather was a little windy first few days but dry and quite warm. Wardens were so friendly and helpful , the site is kept immaculate, toilets are as usual to club standards so clean. Maybe the club could invest into creating more chemical points around site as from some pitches it is a long way to the only one in the toilet block. All in all fantastic for my cavapoo dog with the beach mins away, great couple of weeks. Will definitely be back-soon.

Not made welcome!

We arrived at the site at 20 minutes past eight expecting to pull in quietly and see the warden in the morning. I would have put our membership card through the office letter box. However we were approached by the warden and I immediately apologised for us being late, we had had a long difficult day. She was not interested in my apology but concerned that we were 'foreign' as we have French plates on our car. I explained that we had been held up but she demanded my card to prove that we were members. We were told to pitch on the first available pitch and not to drive around. Of course we were happy to do this. The following morning I went to the office to explain that we did not feel welcome and we had only been 20 minutes late. I was not looking to argue and I thought we could easily smooth the situation and we would then enjoy our holiday. Instead I got a lecture on her working hours, fire regulations, and various questions about how far we had driven and that we should have stopped at the services overnight. I decided we would not stay as long as we had booked as I found her attitude rude and unwelcoming. She could so easily have put things right, she had no idea what sort of day we had had but was only concerned at being put out. The site was clean and very pleasant, the walk to the beach was excellent for the dogs and we enjoyed the local area. We may return another year when different wardens are on site. I accept that it is a difficult job and hard work but we provide holiday accommodation ourselves and would never treat a guest in this manner. I found it quite upsetting

Lovely Easter break!

We enjoyed a lovely long weekend Easter break at Godrevy the weather was absolutely amazing. Upon arrival & setting up we had an electrical fault, we moved pitches & it was found that the pitch connection post was faulty. The wardens were brilliant, very helpful & patient. From the site there are many stunning walks & access to beautiful sandy beaches & the sea. There are many nice places to eat & drink in Gwithian & Hayle which are close to the site. The site is clean & tidy & well worth a visit.

A Cornish Seaside Gem

Spent three great nights at this site, soon after it reopened this Spring. (2019)

The pitches (all grass) have recovered well after a rest over the winter, and the facilities block has undergone a “refresh”, leaving it well up to the standards at other C&MC sites. A credit to the club local managers , having acted on previous reviewers observations.

The site itself is in a great location and is easily accessed off the nearby A30 (just remember to follow the Club Directions).

As mentioned, the biggest attraction this site has is its location, a short walk from the three-mile (5 km) unbroken sandy beaches of the eastern coast of St. Ives Bay. There are also substantial sand dunes known as The Towans which stretch from Porth Kidney Sands in the west all the way to Godrevy Head. This stretch of beach is popular for surfing, particularly in the Gwithian area.

A fantastic place for a short break in the off season, and also for family seaside holidays in the summer.

(Just one caution for families with small (or not so small) children. The walk to the beaches requires crossing a road on a “blind” bend. Not a problem if you keep you’re eyes and ears open, but you might want to keep hold of youngsters who aren’t quite so traffic aware as you cross safely.... Don’t let this put you off, Godrevy is brilliant place for family holidays, especially if you like the outdoor beach life!)

Lovely September Break

We had a great September stay at this site in our motorhome. Easy walk over the downs to the beach, with miles of lovely clean sand when the tide is out. The site is a bit exposed and we decided to come away two days early, before a severe storm headed in. We will certainly stay here again.

Lovely Site Shame About Pitch Availability

we've visited this site a number of times now usually in September and love it. This year we decided to visit in October and whilst we still love the site and its location were slightly disappointed to see around two thirds of the pitches out of action. The wardens had decided to close the two top cul de sacs and remove pegs from a large number of pitches around the site in order to reseed them. We found this rather unfair as we pay the same membership fee as everyone else but because we chose to visit outside the peak time we are penalised as to the pitches we can take. Some of them had the marker moved forward which meant that if we had gone on one of those our outfit would have been on the road. Others had grass seed sown which was being eaten by pigeons!!. Surely this could be done once the site closes. On top of this 3 of the 8 toilets and 3 of the 7 washing cubicles in the ladies were also locked. To cap it all one of the female wardens was moaning that they had six outfits coming in on one day!!. I know it is out of season but come on caravan club treat us all in the same way or else reduce membership for those who only use sites out of the high season.

Fantastic site.

I remember when going on holiday in the caravan was an exciting time with the whole family looking forward to time spent together and by the sea. Now it's just the two of us but we still love our time away and this super site fits the bill. Location by the sea and the site kept well by friendly hard working wardens. Don't get caught up with inspecting the facilities which are perfectly adequate and clean. This is a site where you really can enjoy time away in your van.

Great September break

We just wanted a few days away in September at a Cornwall site that offered great walks direct from the site. We really enjoyed our visit and the fabulous miles of sandy beach when the tide was out! Although we booked for a week, we came home 2 days early because of the severe storm warning for the area (the site is a bit exposed to the South Westerley gales). We will certainly return to this lovely site again.
