Gatwick

Nice clean site. Try to sleep between 11p.m and 6.00 a.m unless you are deaf! We stay here often and go on to Ardingly antique fair, Watch the rabbits at dawn and dusk, sometimes in full daylight!. Good Toby carvery down the road towards Crawley.

Useful site location

I share the comments made about the site being used as a base for people working. The chap opposite us in a scruffy van arrived at 9.0 in the morning and left at 8.0 at night. This was for the full fortnight that we stayed. He never opened his blinds. Further along there was a large twin axle caravan which looked as if it had been bought second hand off a gypsy. The caravan by us was unoccupied for five days, then used for 2 days just to sleep in.Then left for another few days and then slept in again for 2 days. Pitches on this site are being blocked by people using the site for commuting and sleeping. Consequently the site was listed as booked up even in February. It is this blocking of the site to tourers that I object to most. I presume the wardens stop the same people from just rebooking and rebooking . I don't know what the Club rules are about this , but it is unfortunate if people are just using the site as a cheap place to live . Otherwise the site is very conveniently located, nice wardens and well kept. The airplane noise did not bother us but I can see it irritating some people. But the name of the site should make the risk of noise obvious to anyone.

airport drop off.

Stayed for one night to drop our daughter off at Gatwick. Warden very friendly and helpful. Toilets / showers clean. The site appears popular for workers/permanent caravanners in beaten up workvans but so is Alderstead Heath up the road. I wonder if the ethos of the Caravan Club as an organisation set up to help people to pursue leisure activities is slowly being eroded. Just a thought.

Our second stay

This was the second time we have stayed on this site. Our daily commute to Worthing took about 45 minutes each way and luckily we were able to get back to the site before 11 p.m. on most nights which meant not having to leave the car in the car park outside. The barriers are locked between 11p.m. and 6.30 a.m. We like this site as a winter location because of being open all year and very good value for money at just £14.50 per night including toilet blocks, laundry facilities and electric hook-up.

Plane Fun

We have just got back from 7 night stay at Gatwick the wardens was friendly , the toilets etc were as expected from the Club , The planes were fun to watch especially when they changed the direction of take off so i got to take loads of pictures, its has a storage site fenced off and on site, there are many sited pitches too ,  there was a bit of wildlife about aswell i heard woodpeckers and a owl at night there were rabbits ,squirrels and Robins ,Blue tits etc so i filled my memory card up with pics of planes and birds :) the plane noise was bearable but you will not need a alarm clock 7am and there off one after another :) the wifi was hit and miss at the start but after a few phone calls it settled down for the rest of the week, we was very disappointed  that the bus as mentioned in the review did not stop outside the site to take us to the airport or London ,so we had to use the car everyday and pay steep  car park charges on top,   and its a shame the pub on the entrance called the Aviator is closed as there is  no pub in walking distance  but overall we enjoyed it Happy

Great Location

Visited to drop a relative at the airport stopped overnight on LNA and got a taxi probably cheaper than parking. The staff were very helpful and we moved on to the site to use the facilities and watch the relative depart. We saw the plan take off!! Not sure if they saw us waving though

Nice location

We enjoyed being on a site that was close to the airport where we could see planes in close proximity. It made a change from the other sites that we have stayed on and although you do get a lot of aircraft noise in the day, it is not quite so much at night. We had a nice pitch overlooking a lot of green grass from our awning and with an open view over a field bordered by trees.

Great Location...don't forget your Membership card!

CoolBeing one of the Uk's top civilian drivers and aviation enthusiast , I decided to visit Gatwick because of it great location which runs almost parallel to the runway !  Whilst staying there  also had the chance to visit my brother who works for BA . After a long drive , I was looking forward to booking in and settling in with minimum of fuss !,furthermore hoping to get a decent pitch for viewing the aircraft .  Upon arrival I went to check in and realised I'd forgotten my caravan club membership card ... A slight bit of inconvenience at check in , but with a bit of common sense ! ... We got there in the end . glad I had my bank card as ID With me .. I'd hate to think the warden would have made me drive away over a 100 miles to collect Id !! ... Overall , good site , good wardens although I felt wanted to keep themselves to themselves.  finally thanks to the Warden we got a perfect pitch :)  Can't wait to go again.  Just as reference ...  Noise from aeroplanes can be heard , but It doesn't get annoying as one may think. Good dog walking area Happy

Caught Warden on a bad day??

We arrived at 6.30pm so not sure if that irked the Warden, but she managed to tell me off 2 or 3 times in the space of 2 minutes before I had driven the van onto the site. No noise seemed to be her main gripe, which is quite amusing seeing as there are aircraft taking off just yards from her doorstep. We only booked in for one night, leaving quite early to catch a flight, and we had no plans to 'abuse' the access card she had set to allow us early access to leave. My wife came in half way through the conversation and was also taken back by her attitude. From the other reviews for this site I imagine we caught her at a bad time as no one else has seemed to have had a problem. I'd just rather we weren't pre-judged before setting foot on the site. We parked up went to sleep and set off early, quite as mice, as we would of wthout the dressing down from the Warden. Other than that the site was great.

Great Stay

If you don't like planes or are plane noise intolerant, don't stay here, the clue's in the name, Gatwick !! However, I had a really great stay here, the site is actually on the side of one of the runways, the plane noise didn't bother me one bit and I found it really exciting to look up and see the planes taking off, so close to the ground that the livery could be clearly seen. The wardens were friendly and welcoming and the facilities great as is usual on a club site and very clean. It is just 4.4 miles and a 12 minute drive from the Hawth Theatre, which has free parking and all the usual supermarkets and outlets are all just minutes drive away including County Mall Shopping Centre. This was a perfect location for my stay in Crawley and I'd be back like a shot should I be visiting Crawley again.
