Very disappointing site

We have a small camper van so booked a pitch without an awning. We were told that as we had a non-awning pitch we were on the annex. This was not part of the main site, but across a public road in what can only be described as a narrow lane in a cul-de-sac with nothing to recommend it. It was no better than a car park. Our view was a fence a short distance away from us and a wall behind separating us from residential housing which had a view over us. It was soul-destroying. We did not feel like part of a caravan site at all. We had our own shower block to which we were given a key to prevent passing public from using it. It was depressing. It was the worst club site we have ever been on and shall not be returning. It was no doubt very different for those on the proper site who had the advertised views over the bay. We did not get what we believed we were to get when we booked. The site info states the site is divided into two: '...the other provides a far more secluded and sheltered space for those who enjoy extra privacy and quiet. All non-awning pitches and a limited number of awning pitches are located in the part overlooking the bay, while all pitches in the walled area accommodate awnings.' Why anyone would prefer the seclusion of a car park is hard to understand and the site info is false as we had a non-awning pitch so should have been in the main part with the sea view. The printed info is incorrect. We tried to access the internet on the mobile phone but could get no signal - whether this was down to our poor location in the annex or the area generally I do not know. Nowhere to go in Garlieston. Fish and chips van visits (don’t know how often) but does not take a credit card. If you want to buy a paper you have to book it at the local shop the afternoon before, so no good if you arrive later on in the afternoon as we did. Not suitable for cycling, walks from the site are not very interesting, though undoubtedly peaceful. Pretty enough for a short stay, but not worth going out of the way to stay here. Drive to the Isle of Whithorn, which is truly lovely, even on a wet day as it was when we visited. A lot of bird life on a walk from the site across the bay in the bushes and trees along the coast.

You’ve had a totally different experience from ours. We’ve used the walled area when it’s been windy as it is a sheltered sun trap. There are lots of quiet roads for cycling with details available in the information room. I have always found phone reception good as I use my own data to download a daily paper.
