What a Gem

Our first visit to this site, and what a gem. As others have said, staff very friendly and helpful. Came here for the piece and quiet. Had a nice walk on the see, but be warned, the tide comes in fast, so keep an eye in it, if walking out to the waters edge. The pub is very nice, and staff friendly. They serve breakfast until about 10. And the evening food is excellent and a good price. I recommend this site and area for a brake. Well worth the 7 hour journey.

A brilliant few days stay in Garlieston

We have just had a week up on the Galloway Coast and spent time in Garlieston on the club site. The wardens on the site were very helpful and the site was well kept. The meal out at the Harbour Inn was well worth the visit. We look forward to returning in the future

Why I keep returning to Garlieston

We first went to Garlieston because of the setting and because it was a club site. We travel for 4 hrs to get there, passing many other sites in Cumbria as well as Dumfries and Galloway. We love the area, the peace, the cycling and the small towns but most of all we love the welcome we get when we arrive there. We are greeted as old and valued friends, I find the use of our first names much nicer than being called Mrs. Clark. Ann and Martin know where we like to pitch, what we like to do and where we like to go. Many of these places are at their recommendation, without their knowledge we may have missed them. We have been to other sites regularly but find new faces each time. Although they are pleasant and professional once we have paid up there has been a lack of interaction and interest and I have not felt they are knowlegable about the area that is new to them. Keep up the good work Ann & Martin we look forward to our next visit to you.

What a gem!

First visit but will not be our last. A very friendly welcome from the Irish warden on arrival. Excellent site, very well maintained, beautiful flower display and a very informative info hut. The view from our pitch harbour side was stunning across the bay. We could have sat all day just watching the tide coming in and going out. Although we also had a look in the walled garden area and that looked lovely as well but no with no view. It was a very quiet site with only the sound of the birds for company. We had some lovely walks both left and right from the site entrance. It was lovely to see some kayakkers once the tide came in. The site was extremely clean and so was the toilet block (but it does need updating by the Club). Please don't let this put you off visiting though as the facilities are immaculate. Well Done.

Relaxing place

Just back after two weeks at garlieston, the flowers at the entrance show the effort being put in by the wardens to enhance your stay, our first time but won’t be the last very relaxing and well kept site ,we were there when the lone piper played , and also felt disappointed he was asked to stop his spontaneous piping for a short spell brought most people out to listen/enjoy his playin and just to chat ( yes chat) that’s not common these days, anyway it was a fantastic break an we can’t praise the site or wardens enough.

Peaceful and relaxing

After a long drive on some less than ideal roads we arrived at Garlieston on our first ever visit to a warm welcome and brilliant display of flowers. We stayed for 2 weeks and got a front row pitch overlooking the bay. The weather was brilliant so the setting was great just watching the goings on in the bay with the changing tides. Very peaceful and relaxing. The only real gripe we had was when a piper started playing the pipes and he was asked to stop by the relief wardens. The VAST majority of people were enjoying it and were out listening, speaking to their neighbours and taking photos. It’s a shame that one complaint spoilt it for the majority, maybe common sense and taking time to look at the situation would have been better and allowed him to play for a short while longer only.

Jimmy and Bettys favourite.

Once again another lovely trip to Garlieston. This is our 2nd stay in a month. fortunately the weather has been brilliant which has shown the flower display as you enter the site in it,s full glory. What a great job wardens Ann and Martin do at the site. The last time we put a review in we had heard they could be leaving this year and we honestly hope this is not the case. They truly are an asset to the club and would be a great loss for Garlieston. Nothing is too much trouble for them. They really are a lovely couple, and we are so proud to know them.

An under rated area of Scotland

Galloway is a hidden treasure and the club site at Garlieston is well located to explore it. We will certainly return soon.

Could be our last visit, as we believe Ann and Martin are being moved

What a joy as you enter the site the flowers are amazing as always. The welcome as warm as this years summer, oh what a pity the Club feels it is right to move such amazing people. We have been many times because of Ann and Martin but will not return if they leave, as this site will only go one way, downhill. We find Camping and Caravan Club wardens are always friendly but this is not always the case with Caravan and Motorhome Club. We may reconsider our membership as this is one of the few sites we feel that the wardens are always there to help and talking to others many feel the same. Please reconsider moving them as it will upset many members.Thank you again Martin and Ann for yet another lovely holiday, hope to see you here again next year if we don't make it back again in 2018

Our first visit

This was our first visit to the Garlieston site and Dumfries and Galloway area. I was blown away with both the site and the area. The site is immaculate and its setting has to be one of the best in the UK being right on the waterfront. The wardens are an absolute credit to the organisation, the welcome is second to none, nothing is too much trouble and they ensure the pitch you select will ensure your stay will be memorable. The site is kept in pristine condition and the flower display at the entrance is stunning, this is clearly down to the professionalism and enthusiasm of Ann and Martin. We explored the area and were so impressed with the villages on the peninsula (all are crosses between Ballamorey and Port Issac) and the Galloway forest area which has super walks which are as good as many in the Lake District. We only planned to stay for 3 days but we extended it to 5, it would have been longer but had to get back to Devon. We will definitely be going back next year, thank you for a memorable visit.
