Website pictures deceptive!

We arrived to a very busy site mid week but we're met by a lovely warden who was friendly, informative and smiley! We have an 8m unit so sadly most of the pitches on the harbour side weren't big enough even if there had been plenty of pitches available. The website pictures show a non busy site and in reality, we felt quite crammed in with very little outlook as the site was full. We also felt the size of our unit probably ruined the outlook for other users. We chose non awning pitch to be on the harbour side, there are awning pitches on the harbour side however. Unlike most CAMC sites, the wardens gave us the pitch they wanted us on, not bothered as the choice could have been made for logistical reasons. There is a mix of grass and hard standing. We were put on grass which was fine, the ground was solid due to the dry weather. We felt a little claustrophobic on this site as room between pitches was probably the extreme minimum required. Also, unlike hard standing pitches where the pitch boundary is obvious, being on a grass pitch with no obvious boundary, other site clientele did walk very closely to our van. Something we are not used to. Pitch etiquette doesn't seem to exist anymore and not just on this site. I think because of its popularity and location, the club have put too many pitches on this site or am I just being cynical?? Everything else, the village, the walks, the coastal views if available, the ambience generally is good here. The wardens work hard to maintain the site. The facilities were very clean however the rubbish bins filled very quickly. We probably won't return to Garlieston due to it being to hemmed in when busy. If you're lucky to be visiting when it's not busy, this site will be heavenly.

Peaceful haven

Fabulous site, amazing wardens, very helpful. Facilities all very clean and gardens beautiful. What a lovely welcome by Ann, one of the wardens, she gave lots us lots of information on walks etc. Fish and chip truck just outside the campsite on a Friday, (they only take cash) fish and chips were lovely. We had a great spot overlooking the sea, we will definitely return, thank you so much

Bliss!

A little late with a review of our stay in mid-May but had to write. We had a hardstanding pitch overlooking the harbour which was very relaxing for us. Fell in love with the site and the village. Lovely walks in all directions and would particularly recommend a walk along the coast to Galloway Gardens, a cathedral of birdsong during our stay. Local bus trips to nearby interesting places such as Wigton. But last words must be for the hard-working staff on site, especially the manager Ann. My husband has Alzheimer's and now cannot negotiate the Covid protocols or new surroundings without help, so Ann gave us a key to the 'accessible' shower and toilet for us to use together which was just the job for us. We now have a Radar key for regular use at home and when travelling. My husband just loves being on the road in the van. Just one kind action made our holiday. Thank you.

Fabulous location

Having visited this site a number of times it did not disappoint yet again . Great location for walking, cycling and relaxing .We have 2 dogs who just love it here for the nearby beach and plenty walks . The walled garden part of the site was a first for us as we would normally choose the harbour side . it is a sun trap and so private . Excellent facilities and the friendliness and hardwork by the wardens make it a joy to be there. Looking forward to the next time .

Fabulous clean site, with lovely views and managed by excellent wardens

Just returned from 4 nights at this lovely site. The wardens were absolutley wonderful, so friendly and helpful and maintained the site to exceptionally high standards. The views are beautiful overlooking the harbour with handy walks from site, brilliants for dog walking. We were told the pub a short walk from the site was good (although we didn't try this). We did find a superb sanwhich shop nearby in Port William, called Tasty Bites, which sold breakfasts in a box - delicious. The surrounding area was great to explore with stunning scenery, we found a grassy wild camping site at the Isle of Whithorn, right at the far end of the harbour, which was great to park the motorhome on, have a picnic and take in the views with a short walk.

Lovely, clean site right on the coast

Ann and team couldn't have made us more welcome, we hadn't booked, but they managed to get us in to one of two pitches remaining, we were in the walled garden, fabulous and very sheltered. The place was really clean, with the team spraying and cleaning facilities regularly. Super reassuring during the pandemic. Ann told us about pub, 2 minutes walk and local walks we could do. Really friendly, just what we needed after long drive from Yorkshire. Excellent site we will be back.

Excellent site

Stayed here the 31/5 - 2/6 2021 pitch no 7 overlooking the harbour. Great site and very professional and friendly staff. Good food at the Harbour Inn and dog friendly. Nice walk to Rigg Bay and back through the gardens of Galloway Hall gardens. I am not a gardens person but must admit was impressed with all the various trees and plants.

What a peaceful and beautiful site

We stayed at this site for the first time from the 29th May to 1st of June and it will not be our last. The welcome from Ann was really refreshing and welcoming. We had a lovely time, beautiful walks and cycle rides. We ate at the Harbour Inn and that was very nice. If you want a site which has the scenery, walks and tranquility this is the site.
