We spent a very happy week at Gaer Hyfryd in early September. The main reason for our stay was to visit the nearby Bala Lake and Llangollen railways, but further afield we recommend Pistyll Rhaedr, which was spectacular despite recent dry weather. A short walk down a quiet lane takes you to the Rhug Estate complex on the A5, which does upmarket snacks and has a deli.
The fully serviced pitch and decent wi-fi speed were much appreciated. It makes such a difference to a holiday when everything works.
Lastly we want to mention the Site Manager, Billy. He is welcoming and always approachable and maintains the site to an impeccable standard.
Cancel at your peril
We had a couple of nights booked and paid for here. Unfortunately we had to change our plans at a very late stage (on the day). I phoned the site and informed them for which I was thanked. I asked about cancellation terms and the lady said the office will get in touch but they never have despite me chasing this up. I wasn’t expecting a refund but it would have been nice to be offered a chance to take those nights some time in the near future. I can’t comment on anything else as we didn’t get there (the review programme forced me to put in a score) but beware of booking this site as they are uncommunicative and inflexible.
Peaceful site with stunning views
We have just come back from a super weeks stay. William, site manager, made us very welcome on arrival and checked on us occasionally making sure we were ok and had everything we needed. Views over fields were stunning. Facilities were spotlessly clean. Free Wi fi. Site in general was very clean, good sized pitches. nicely spaced. Beautiful countryside and lots of places to visit. Will certainly be going back in the future. Thank you.
Tranquil, very well run site fabulous scenery
Touring caravan, stayed for 4 nights. Great location, scenery, spotlessly clean, free decent WiFi. The site manager, Billy is extremely friendly and welcoming - went out of his way to help us access and egress the site which was very much appreciated. Thank you will definitely return

Lovely peaceful getaway
Spent a lovely relaxing weekend at Gaer Hyfryd, arrived Friday evening and greeted by Rob who introduced himself to us both and showed us to our pitch. Site is lovely with great views, fully serviced hardstanding pitches and a very clean toilet block.
Site is ideal to explore Llangollen or Bala, however no local shop so make sure you get everything you need whilst out.
As we packed up to leave yesterday Rob took the time to wander up to check we had enjoyed our stay which was a nice touch.
Will definitely book again and can highly recommend.
Lovely site, quiet and peaceful
Stayed for one night on way to visit relatives in Wales but what a find! Despite being very close to the A5 the site is lovely and peaceful with just the sound of birds for company. Pitches are well spaced out and ours had a view of hills and countryside. The warden was very friendly and helpful, telling us about the local area. Delicious bison burgers enjoyed from nearby Rhug Estate farm shop. Would definitely stay again.

Lovely site
Excellent quiet site. Very clean toilet and shower block and the site was well maintained by site warden, Billy, who was very helpful too. There is free Wi-Fi and the site is within easy reach of Chirk Castle, Llangollen, Pontcysyllte Aqueduct and more. Paul & Jenny
Gaer Hyfryd - Lovely medium size site, lots to do locally
Just spent a week here at Gaer Hyfryd, and what a great place it was. Billy the site manager showed us to our pitch and assisted with reversing directions to get sorted/ positioned. Next morning when we discovered a flat car battery, Billy was again only too willing to help with a jump start.
The next door neighbours - two Highland cattle with their babies provided lots of interest during the week, and the three calves on the dog walk were certainly interesting - although very calm!!! At the end of the minor road to the site is an excellent cafe/ ice cream parlour/ coffee shop/ local meat and produce shop - The Rhug Estate. Lovely fresh pies, pasties and bread were had from here and were very much enjoyed.
Lots to visit in the area, with Bala Lake about 10 miles away, and we took a trip on the Bala Lake railway which was very good. Couple of nice ice cream parlours in Bala - which of course had to be sampled. A little further is Snowdon with it's visitor centre and mountain railway. We had hoped to visit the top of Snowdon but be warned, we travelled outside of the school holiday season and the train was still booked up for a couple of weeks - something to go back for.
Rhyl and Prestatyn are around a 60-70 minute drive away if you fancy a trip to the beach, with Barmouth and Porthmadoc around an hour away the other way.
There are several cafe's and takeaways in Corwen which is around 2.5 miles from the site
All in all we had a great week and we will definitely be visiting here again.

Just spent a weekend here with friends. A beautifully kept site with fully serviced level gravelled pitches.
There's clean faculties and fully signed dog walk and play area.
Beautiful scenery and a short walk to The Rhug Estate
Farm Shop,
A warm welcome from the site warden who is very friendly and even checks in with you before leaving, a rarity on some sites these days!
Will definitely return and would highly recommend to others.
