Shakedown Weekend

As returning (after a 25 year break) caravaners and the purchase of a new inflatable awning we picked this site at random and a very pleasant choice it was. Even though the CL site was a bit squidgy underfoot, being a grass site, we both enjoyed our first weekend away, and will probably go again later in the year.  The site was well presented, clean and tidy as we would expect from an adult only site, but the CL toilet block could do with a bit more heating especially on the chilly mornings. Not being fishing people but we did enjoy a couple of walks, especially the Doddington circular walk which took around one and a half hours, enough for me!! Enjoyed the stay and will go again.

Great if you fish, not so great if you don't.

We have just returned from a 3 night stay at a fully serviced hard-standing pitch. As we arrived out of season, the reception is closed, it opens in April. There is a board with a phone number to call when you arrive, which worked well. We were allocated pitch 21 which is a serviced hard-standing pitch. Unfortunately our equipment (which has always been fine at other serviced pitches) would not reach the water tap or the drain. The tap was on the opposite side from where our water and waste points are on the caravan. Having looked around the site, we were not the only ones having this problem. Unfortunately the drain for our pitch, which was shared with the next pitch, was not draining away and was flooding the grass in between pitches making the use of the tap very muddy. We did report it so hopefully they will sort it, although this did not happen whilst we were there. There was only one shower/toilet block, I would imagine this would not be enough when the site has more guests. However, it was fine whilst we were there. The block was warm and clean, the shower had hot water but lacked power, but it was okay. The toilet waste point is a hole in ground with a tap and hose next to it. I can imagine this would be difficult to use for older guests. There were quite a few flies buzzing around it too. The site would be great if you fish as it has two lakes which seemed very popular with fishermen. (I don't fish so I am only presuming). There are quite a few grass pitches on the site, all the ones (apart from the Caravan Club field) seemed to be water logged and extremely muddy. The pitches are quite close to each other which can cause problems when arriving and leaving, we have a mover and were able to pull it out onto the road and avoid the grass and mud. All in all, we had a nice break but won't be returning.

Rest and Relaxation

This site was very well presented when we visited in early October. We had lovely weather and the huge skies provided the best sunsets ever. The site has lovely facilities with clean and warm toilet block. Is in a very quiet location, perfect for time out. We don't go fishing but a relaxing walk round the lakes was very pleasant. Easy access to local towns and shops and pubs in the village but you do need the car (or bicycle) to get to and from places. On our list for a second visit.

Very Peaceful Weekend

Stayed here for two nights on a serviced pitch.  Very helpful and friendly staff.  Lovely toilet block, clean and warm.  Lots to see nearby.  Extremely quiet so we had a very relaxing weekend.

Little oasis of calm

We spent a week in September on a service pitch. The site was easily accessible from the road, and the booking in was a simple process. Very enthusiastic receptionist, especially when our original allocated pitch proved to be too small for our TA caravan. This was quickly rectified. Very clean site, nice warm toilet block ( even had quilted toilet paper), newspaper delivery from shop. The fishing is a bonus. Excellent fishing with quality fish. Two lakes to chose from, and only a very short walk from the caravan. Bait and tackle is available in the shop. Large supermarkets  and fuel nearby in March. Ely is worth a visit to see the cathedral. This is an adult only site situated in a rural part of the country so you do need your car.

lovely site, peaceful getaway

My husband and I stayed here for a week in July this year.  The staff at reception were excellent and the shop stocked well. The cl site looks out onto the bottom pond and the fields beyond, indeed a lovely view.  Being an adults only site it was quiet and peaceful. My only concern was the cl shower and toilet.  Whilst cleaned it was covered with spiders which (during the week we stayed) were not removed.  I counted 15 at my last count.  My husband removed them for me in the end.  Before this i used the toilets and showers from the main caravan site which were spotless.   Overall though , apart from this one issue, this site is well maintained and a lovely place to get away from it all. The fishing was excellent too.

A haven of peace

A delightful site in very rural surroundings. We have just returned from 4 days here. It was quiet, very well kept, spacious and clean and, best of all, no kids roaring round on bikes. A realistic speed limit - 10 mph. 2 large fishing lakes with large fish and pleasant walks around the site. They even mowed the grass in the morning, so that when we returned in the afternoon we weren't plagued by mowers, as in C.C. sites. We will be back.

Fields End

We had an enjoyable stay here recently. The welcome on arrival was friendly, clear and helpful. The site itself is very nicely kept, and a really peaceful place to stay. The facilities were spotlessly clean, good hot showers, but quite small. Quite a cramped area to shower in without the usual changing area in the shower cubicle. The facilities were also quite cold, heating would still be appreciated on cold spring mornings. That said, they are kept extremely clean and tidy, and that is most important. Lots of service pitches which is good, and there is wifi.

A Great Adult Site

Having just returned from this affiliated site I felt it is more than worthy of a review. From the initial booking in (Amanda) to local knowledge of eating place and fishing (Charlie) and departure (Debra) I could not have been in better hands, you all collectively made our stay with you enjoyable and relaxing. The site itself is devided into areas where anyone can stay and a small CL site which was absolutley perfect for use situated between two fishing lakes. Facilities are first class with the CL site having its own showers and toilet block which was kept spotless. A great site for adults whos partners like to do a little fishing I will be returning to this site in the very near future. A great site if you have a dog with plenty of dog walking space. Well done to the team at Fields End Water, see you again soon. Just be aware that the approach road into Doddington (B1093) I think, is uneven but provided you keep your speed down you wont feel sea sick,ha ha. The local pub (The George) made us feel very welcome and is clearly the heart of a small village, the food is home cooking with home made chips and the portions are large also dog friendly so well worth knowing.
