Good for families

If heading south to London, this is a good stop off site

I have stayed here on 3 occasions on my way south to London. It is easily accessible from the A1. It is also a good site for families, being adjacent to Nene Valley Railway and the park. There are good walks in the park for nature lovers. The cafe, by the waterside, has a room where you can take dogs (they serve a wonderful breakfast). The cafe closest to the site has a covered area where dogs are welcome. Don't forget your club membership card as they offer a discount to members. On my 1st visit, after a long drive, I thought the welcome form the site staff was rather abrupt. I travel alone and accept that I had been anxious about finding the site, and so this may have clouded my judgement slightly, however I found the reception I received was lacking warmth. I was given abrupt instruction as to how to find a pitch and site my caravan.I was given no information about the local area and offers available. (Eg discount in the cafe and on the railway ) On my 3rd visit, I parked my small caravan with the post to the centre. I accept that i was positioned wrongly but decided, rather than manoeuvre again (i do not have a mover installed), I decided to stay in position. I have a very small caravan , was staying for one night only and was not erecting an awning. There were no other units on either side of me (at all - all other units were opposite me). It was pointed out to me, within minutes, that I was parked incorrectly. Fortunately the gentleman allowed me to stay in position but I felt that this permission was given grudgingly. I had noticed that a much larger unit (a fifth wheel) was also parked with the post to centre. When i approached the warden about this, I was informed that it was ok because of the position of the pitch, and the vehicle is hard to manoeuvre! I do understand that there should be regulations and that they should be adhered to. But i also think common sense should prevail and that people chosing to work in the leisure industry should be approachable, friendly and be able to listen before giving a lecture, as indeed most staff are. I have expressed these comments directly to the staff on site

Oh dear Jean! So you knowingly pitch totally wrongly and then criticise the staff member for grudgingly giving you consent to stay as you had pitched. For grudgingly I would read 'after careful consideration with regard to fire safety clearances'. If he had realised your attitude he might well have insisted that you moved!

You seem to consider it strange that a large fifth wheel was considered OK not parked to the peg because of the actual pitch being used. Did you not consider that the warden might have reserved this particular pitch for said fifth wheeeler for a reason?

When you ' expressed these comments directly to the staff on site ' what response did you get or did they keep quiet in the knowledge that you can't please some folk?

Common sense did prevail, Jean, as the warden allowed you to stay pitched incorrectly.

I think you need to take a step back and consider this with fresh eyes. You pitched wrongly, as you admit, yet criticise the warden for his attitude even though he allowed you to stay put. I can imagine his frustration when people pitch wrongly, despite having been given clear instructions.
