A Good Stay

This was our 3rd visit to Ferry Meadows and our first in March. We stayed midweek and although the site was quite full it was fairly quiet. At this time of the year only the west side was open (all hard standing) but the facilities were well kept and the wardens friendly. Plenty to see and do in the area - Nene Park is on the doorstep with plenty of walking/cycling routes. We even walked into Peterborough and back one day which for us was almost a step too far! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay but would probably not wish to stay when the site was completely full in the main season as it would be a great place for families and children with plenty of things for them to do.

Ferry Meadows

A Great site for families, walkers and cyclists. A bit noisy at times, particularly this visit as there was a lot of work going on nearby. my only 'gripe' is the 12 o'clock rule during off peak periods. It's a big site with an excellent approach and entry area, plenty of staff and rarely full - despite the web site saying it is. If you've got Friday off and are out for a long weekend you've lost most of your first day. This doesn't, of course, only apply to Ferry Meadows.

Another good weekend at Ferry Meadows

Our first trip of the year to Ferry Meadows. As always, easy access to the site and the usual warm welcome from the Wardens. The site is clean, facilities to the usual high club standards and the wardens complete their daily business in an unobtrusive manner. Two areas of development for consideration. [1] The MWP point is poorly situated and you block entrance to a particular nice area of the site if you use the MWP or refill your water. [2] The club site late availability status showed the site as full, but we counted at least three spare pitches – so do ring on the off chance of getting a pitch at this great site. Thanks again Ferry Meadows / Nene Park for a top weekend of walks and relaxation.

Freddy Mellows

Freddy Mellows (as a friends infant cutely calls it) is our local site, and we used it mid February for two nights to check our new van out. The site is very well kept, with generous pitches (hardstanding) and as usual excellent CC toilet block facilities. The site was quite full when we stayed, and the wifi was adequate for email & browsing.

Mobile reception (EE) poor in some areas, TV signal good for central region through the van’s antenna, Bollard TV connection also available (not tried).

The site is within Nene Park, which has many miles of walks and cycle paths, and connects onto Peterboroughs “green wheel”, a network of local cycle routes around the city.

Nene park facilities are very good, and include a good watersports centre that offers dingy/kayak/windsurfing hire and lessons. There’s also very reasonable day launch if you bring your own gear (currently £5 weekday, £10 weekend day, £15 whole weekend at time of writing.) http://www.neneoutdoors.co.uk/

The park covers a wide area, here’s footage from last August that give some scale to the place ( I’m the one in the fluro green!) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mgzM-D5KolY

As Freddy is close to a populous city, and th eparks facilities are shared by that population,  be security aware, lock stuff up, and you’ll have an excellent base for an break with a huge choice of activities. This site has access to something for everyone, the only exception probably being a beach.

The local caravan dealer is Pioneer at Eye, Peterborough, and they stock a decent range of spares/accessories.

Great all rounder

Our first time here but not the last. Spotless toilet blocks and probably the best we have seen on club sites. No litter anywhere. The surroundings are superb with plenty to do without leaving the area. Marvellous walks round the lakes with many birds and other wildlife to see. Also a geocachers paradise which suited us.

'Ferry' enjoyable

We have visited this site on a few occasions at different times of the year but still find plenty to do and see. The site is always very clean and tidy and congratulate the wardens on keeping a large site well presented. The Nene Valley Railway runs adjacent to the site and you will hear the whistle from the train as it travels to & from its destinations, the nearest station is on Ham Lane only 200 yards from the site entrance. Visit at the right time and there will be plenty of wildlife on the water as well as people enjoying the water sports available. Take your bikes and there is plenty of cycling around the area. In all a site with plenty to do and see, whether you are a couple or a family.

Excellent site

We loved our stay here. The staff were friendly and helpful, such a clean and tidy campsite, excellent toilet/shower block facilities, especially the baby bath for our 10 month old. Great location on the country park and we were impressed with the cycling routes as they went on forever. Will definitely visit again.
