Cycling NOT controlled

This site is excellent for children. We went during half term, so it was busy, However! The rules on cycling is quite clear in the site rules (you MUST obey one way system) this was blatantly disregarded by most. I was trying to teach my grandson to cycle, and he couldn't understand why most people were going the wrong way? This was very dangerous and the wardens were ignoring it totally. We had to give up trying to ride and he was very disappointed. The new play area was fantastic and where we spent most of our time even though the weather was awful. This is a great site but rules are rules and should be enforced. Shame on the club!

2nd Visit already booked

Having just returned from Ferry Meadows I am looking forward to our second visit,  the drive down tbe A1 was straight forward no hold ups (nice surprise), we arrived at 12:10 to join the queue even this was well organised and we soon got checked in the warden's were very helpful in telling us where the best pitch for us would be depending on wether you had young children or not we chose the side of the site where you actually check in (pitch 81) this caught great afternoon sun on day 1 there after the weather went down hill, not even the fantastic wardens can do anything about this, the pitch was a great size and hardstanding as most seem to be on this side the other is mainly grass our pitch was close to the shower block which was spotless,  the surrounding area, park and steam train are a great asset to the site as well as the walks and cycle routes,  there is a pub just up the road typical pub food but it was ok if you couldn't be bothered to cook albeit a bit pricey, we had a trip booked to Chester fairoaks at the end of August but we have cancelled and re booked Ferry Meadows to further explore hopefully with better weather, overall fantastic site and wardens.  As the for bike thefts we did not here of any and there was some expensive bikes people had brought due to a cycle race in Cambridge over the weekend.

Grandson's choice

Perfect location for families. Grandchildren always choose this sight to visit and the new play park with football pitch was definitely a hit with them.

Playpark

We regulary stay at this campsite. This time we stayed on the east side as we brought three grandchildren with us. The new play park was a great hit with all of them in fact it was hard to prise them away to venture further a field. There are many cycle paths and walks and the added attraction of the steam train which ran four times a day. We have booked to go again with out the grandchildren this time. Excellent facilities and lovely wardens.

Enjoyable stay

We had a lovely time at Ferry Meadows found a good spot yes it was close to the shower block but did not bother us. There are plenty of things to do and great walks to take and if the mood takes you why not take a train ride it's only just down the road. For the ladies and gentlemen out there who like a round of golf then you can do that as well one is close at hand.

People constantly crossing your pitch

We had a lovely pitch on the east side spoilt by people crossing the pitch from the back of the field disturbing the dogs and us.  When we first arrived nobody crossed our pitch then they left and others arrived, you only need one person and everyone thinks it is a right of way. After telling a few to go behind our van on the other side of our pitch and not in front where our door is, some took notice; one man in particular, decided to be extremely rude saying do you want me to sweep your pitch" and informed me that I shouldn't be camping if I object to people constantly  crossing my pitch.  I also noticed that without notices on the all the bins for recycling;  general rubbish was put in these although they had clear plastic bags.  We have always camped at Ferry Meadows twice a year for several years and have been camping for thirty years.  I will definitely use the west side from now on to avoid this occurring again. Noisy corner.....

Don't get me wrong, this site is really, really good, staff are fantastic, facilities were spotless and modern. That said, we thought the pitches were a bid close together and no privacy so chose a nice quiet grassed area that looked more like a little CL pitch number 109. Bad move..... The weekend was glorious and this attracted thousands of visitors to the Ferry Meddows park which meant the road noise was awful, worse was to come... As each vehicle arrived and left the car park they had to drive over some sort of metal security measure which went clank clank every time a vehicle drove over it and there were thousands of them, it went on all day Sat and Sun. The local authority should be contacted to ask if something could be done about it. It was dreadful. We will visit again, but won't stay on that half of the site.  Nearly a week has gone by since we left and I can still hear the clank clank ......
