A charming retreat

We just spent 5 nights at this lovely little site for our first visit to Exmoor and what a treat. The wardens were welcoming, friendly and helpful and the grounds were immaculate, with a lovely floral area. We could only book one of the last few non-awning pitches, which was on a gravelled cut-de-sac area; not the prettiest location but fine for our needs. The shower blocks were compact but spotless and likewise the washing up areas. I should say that it wasn't the quietest site we've ever been on, but that was only because of the rushing of the adjacent river over the rapids and the screaming of the swooping swifts overhead in the evening. That sort of noise, we could live with every day!!! It's literally a five minute walk into the lovely small town of Dulverton and the Bridge Inn, where again the staff were very friendly and welcoming and on one evening slotted us in for a quick early meal when they were fully booked. The vanilla clotted cream ice creams from the town deli were absolutely delicious as was the fine lattes at Tantivy coffee shop. The Co-op was well stocked for provisions, if self-catering. We cycled from the site on four days, taking in over 120 miles of Exmoor's finest views from the moors. The lanes to Tarr Steps were challenging and the hills on the way to Winsford gave us a great appetite for the pots of tea and delicious Somerset Apple cake. The village is so pretty with its thatched cottages and small footbridges over the river and streams. On our last day we cycled to Dunster and what a pretty town that is too. We can recommend Tessa's Tearoom on the High street for sensational sandwiches and salads. All in all, we had a wonderful time at this charming little site.
