A really good site with level pitches.

We used this site as a one night stopover and found the site ideal for access from the motorway. Our only criticism was that although we arrived just after 12 noon along with two other caravans, we were all asked to just leave our club membership cards through the letterbox and they would be dealt with at 9am the next morning. This meant that we had to hang around in the morning until 9am, when we wanted to get going on the next leg of our journey. We were not impressed by this lack of service. We did like the site though and would go there again.

Comment from The Club

Many thanks for your review and we are sorry to hear that you had some concerns about staying at the site.  We have been in touch with the wardens who advise that you were asked if you would be leaving before 9am on the day of departure.  They understood your response was no you wouldn’t be leaving before 9am. Therefore the wardens were  very concerned to read that you had to hang around until 9am as they were under the impression you were leaving later.  Many apologies there was obviously a misunderstanding and thank you for leaving a review

Shhhhhh!

Absolute peace. If you want a quiet night, this is the site for you. I can only think of one other place that is as tranquil. We spent a weekend here as its fairly local to us and even though the British summer lived up to its reputation we enjoyed a long cycle ride of round the Eden valley. We are very likely to come here again. You don't even have to traipse to the loo, the shower, or the wash up area.... cos there isnt one now there's a good reason to visit. Lovely spacious pitches with loads of surrounding grassy areas and shrubby areas all immaculately kept. didnt see any wild life, but the 'wabbits' had probably been washed away with all the rain lately.

Lovely and Quite

Stopped off on the way to Scotland then Ireland, then again on the way back. Such a lovely quite site and we had fish and chips on our return, ( thanks to the staff ). A little out off the way but not a problem, we are thinking of  visiting Scotland next year and may call again. A big thank you to all staff again.

Excellent stay

We had a fantastic stay as always. This is our all time favourite site. The wardens and volunteer wardens are excellent, working so hard to maintain this site to the highest standard. The highlight of our stay was the charity event held on Saturday 25th July. An excellent afternoon was had by all especiialy our grandson age 4. Well done to all wardens for their hard work and enthusiasm organising the event. The steel band were excellent giving a carnival spirit to the afternoon. Thank you.  Ps our grandchildren 8 and 4 love this site !! Thank you for always making them so welcome. A beautiful place for them to be just children enjoying lots of fresh air and self made fun.

Peaceful Stopover

We booked ahead for 2 night advising we would not be there until about 8pm.  We arrived at 2020, apologised for arriving late but we got a very frosty 'welcome' from the relief warden.  We let it pass, went and pitched up.  A few more arrived after and we kept smiling at her and being pleasant until she was pleasant back.  By the end they were quite friendly, need to work on their welcome! The site is well laid out, well maintained but as someone else stated, some pitches are prone to flooding.  We were on Pitch 9 and it was flooded on the last morning, we moved to higher ground for breakfast before leaving. Not having a toilet block and dish washing area makes you use the more than adequate facilities on board, a step towards wild camping in the future perhaps. There is a good dog walk on site and there were plenty other people with dogs, including the wardens, all were well behaved.

Cycling Weekend

A very well kept tranquil site and a great base for cycling. There is a good 30 mile route on quiet country roads that takes you on a circuit of the Eden Valley, crossing the river at Warwick Bridge to the North and returning via the bridge at Lazonby. We enjoyed a stop for coffee and cakes in the village of Wetheral and stopped again for a late lunch at one of the pubs in Kirkoswald. By using the bridge at Armathwaite you could do a shorter version of this ride. No sign of the red squirrels, in fact the lack of wildlife on the site was noticeable.

Choose your pitch carefully

Lovely quiet site, everywhere tidy and clean. Good location for Lakes and Hadrians Wall country, also with being such a short distance off the M6 a good "stopping off en route site" Helpful friendly wardens helped us when we had a faulty connector on our spare gas bottle. The only problem was we, along with others were flooded out, there seems to be a problem with drainage on some pitches, our awning was at least 2 ins deep in water. After heavy rain, it seems this happens frequently from what regulars on this site say,the CC have been made aware of this. We did move to another pitch, which was a bit of a pain setting up again. So avoid pitch 40 and the ones below or bring your wellies!

Brilliant helpful staff

Our first visit to this site and it will not be our last. We arrived on a Friday and were immediately offered to option of fish & chips that evening, not from a van, but a member of staff would travel to the local fish shop with our order and bring them back to site for us. Brilliant service!! The staff were also very friendly offering advice on the the various walks and other places of interest. For me however, it was topped by the helping hand that I was given when my removable tow bar refused to fit back onto my car. A potential major inconvenience was averted by the warden. The man, who has seen this type of problem reducing grown men to tears, took the tow bar and, within seconds, rectified what I had been attempting to achieve for the past hour. We were on our way, and I cannot thank him enough. As for the site itself, well it is beautiful and really is as tranquil as the website states. But if you want to also feel that you are receiving a first class service (almost concierge) then I would recommend this site and commend all of the wardens for their friendly and helpful attention.

STUNNING TRANQUIL SITE

This was our first outing in our motorhome and we were quite apprehensive about all the do's and dont's of motorhoming! We needn't have worried, the relief wardens John and Maureen were a godsend and helped us throughout our 5 night stay. The site is stunningly tranquil with fabulous generous pitches and lush surrounding greenery which is all kept immaculate by the CC. It's a popular site and we met some lovely helpful people who have been using the site for many years.  We are looking forward to spending more time at Englethwaite...peace, tranquility and relaxation...what more could you ask for? Many thanks for a perfect 'first adventure' ?? Brenda & Michael

Peace and Birdsong

I stayed here for a night each way on my trip to Scotland. Not my first stays either as it is so great for me and the dogs. For a one night stay I would prefer a toilet block but this site is worth the little extra effort of connection up water etc. The birdsong is brilliant but unfortunately I didn't see any red squirrels that have a feeder and a hide to watch them from. Dog walk is good and Wardens friendly. I set the Sat Nav for "Wetheral" and then followed the book instructions which worked well as only 3 miles left to go at that point. Although I am trying to visit new sites - I am sure I will return to Englethwaite Hall for a rest on the long journey North and South.
