Busy, bustling site

Ok, so let's be honest here ... one doesn't come to Edinburgh in Festival time for peace and tranquility, does one! This is a terrific site - the facilities are excellent, the wardens are brilliant (they really are SO helpful), the communications links to the city are great ... but it's a busy site, so don't expect a quiet time at this point in the year! The overflying aircraft kept going until the early hours and Marine Drive seems to be a bit of a rat run now, with traffic starting at about 5:30 and going on until midnight. Both of those have not been our experience in the past, so we're not sure why things have changed. Also, people come home to the site late after seeing exciting shows, and leave early for exciting days in Edinburgh, so there's always something going on. Add to that the continuous maintenance that a site like this needs, including the deft use of a petrol-driven leaf blower to "sweep" the granite chippings back from the roads to the pitches and you find a bustling, busy community at work and play. Having said all that, this really is a wonderful site to "do" Edinburgh from. The buses have already been mentioned but there's also a regular minibus service from the site gate which is super if the timings suit you. The Tattoo is well served too, with a minibus taking you from the site gate to the Castle and back again for £10, which saves a great deal of hassle and is thoroughly recommended - he does a bit of a guided tour, too. You do need to phone to book, though. Towing to and from the site is easy with the latest Club directions, and even if you're going north from the A1 to the M90 and not stopping at Edinburgh they are worth taking to avoid the A720! Overall this is a really good site and has got to be one of the best on the Network.
