A Good Site For A City Break

I would have rated this site excellent were it not for a couple of things which are essentially beyond the C&MCs control. Firstly, the site is situated very close to the flightpath into Edinburgh Airport's south westerly runway, so if you're a light sleeper, it could be a bit of a problem at night. Secondly, the site is about half a mile down a lightly used, unlit road, which we did walk down at night but we weren't comfortable. The pavement is good but if you're of a nervous disposition, I suggest you forego the buses and either use taxis or take advantage of Graham's excellent minibus service which runs from outside the reception directly to the city centre in about 15 minutes. Return fare was £6 each and worth every penny, thank you Graham. We were extremely happy with everything else about the site. The wardens were very friendly and they kept the site clean and tidy. The toilet blocks were a bit dated but were clean and perfectly usable, with downtime for cleaning kept down to a creditable 90 minutes as well. One comment I would make is that there are no pubs or restaurants close to the site, the nearest being a Toby Carvery (adequate at best IHMO) about 30 minutes walk away, part of which is down the aforementioned lane. The last minibus to the site from the city centre is around 6.30pm, so if you want to stay in the city until later and you're anything like nervous, then it's a taxi I'm afraid. All in all though, it's a thoroughly good site, which I'd be happy to go back to and I recommend it to you.
