Handy for Edinburgh

We had a pitch that was adjacent to the road and had quite a bit of disturbance from road noise early in the morning. If we use the site again, we will pitch on the further side. The facilities are a little tired and are accessed by key code for some reason. Pitches Are quite well spaced and fairly level. There is a bus route in to the city about 10 minutes walk away, or a minibus at intervals throug the day. The site is a little away from shops and pubs unless you have a car.m

my favourite

From the warm welcome to the immaculate site, great facilities which were clean and well maintained, my only moan is that I had to leave at end of holiday.  Will be back.

One of my favourite CC Sites

Love this site, great facilities, clean and lovely walks or runs. Wish the bus stop was a little closer but thats my only comment. One of my favourite sites, the staff are friendly and knowledgeable.

Great work by wardens on the site

I have been visiting the Edinburgh site for many years and have always enjoyed it. Now, thanks to a great team of wardens, the site is becoming better than ever. All the hedges were trimmed, the pitches had been weeded and redefined (a huge job) and the floral displays around reception were absolutely fantastic. The amount of work going into the site by the wardens deserves special praise and a big thank you.

Fabulous for Edinburgh attractions

Knowing how frightful Edinburgh is for driving around, this site is great as the buses into town are usually every 10 minutes and the night service runs right through so you have no worries about getting back. There is a long wide prom you can walk on for miles, right by the water but there is not much to walk too at either end. Two toilet blocks meant no queues even over their full periods, however the showers are somewhat jaded with poor silicone and edging coming off. Both the mens and ladies suffered from very noisy screeching showers at times which we could hear from our caravan and didn't make for a relaxing shower when using if it randomly happened to the one you were using. The information room is poor as others have said, not even info on the Castle but the broadband facility is excellent and good speed. I would warm families to beware of the rules for children in pubs as these are different to England, not usually chearly displayed or displayed at all and landlords seem to be the only people up here who dont welcome the tourists

Wonderful first time visit

We stayed at the site over the August bank holiday weekend and had a great time.  The site is very pretty and well kept by the wardens. Toilet block is as you would expect on a club site, very clean and well maintained.  Although not located in the city a short walk to the main road and there is an excellent bus service to Leith and Edinburgh. £1.50 for a single journey or £4 for an all day hop on hop off ticket, very good value.  Sit on the top deck for wonderful views of the coast and architecture. However, I would recommend taking a small torch if you return to the site after dark by bus as the pathway from the main road is unlit.  Edinburgh airport is quite close by and aircraft seem to be flying overhead every couple of minutes, this was not a problem to us, quite a novelty.  They do not fly over during the night.  We thoroughly enjoyed our first visit to Edinburgh and will definitely return.  The tattoo was amazing, the Fringe Festival was well under way with lots of street performers.  The streets were heaving with people and it made a lovely atmosphere.  A visit to Queensferry, 20 minutes by car, is worth getting into the car for. Lovely little historic town situated at the foot of the Forth bridges, very pretty place. That was the only time we moved our car during the 5 days we stayed at the site, as we knew we would be able to access all areas of the city using the brilliant bus service.

Excellent for the Fringe

On the fringe of Edinburgh with a superb location near the north coast and beaches of Silverknowes, this site is also ideally situated for daily visits to Edinburgh. You can drive 5 minutes where you will find free on street parking, and then get the buses (£1.50 each way) which run at 10 minute intervals into the city. Your 40 minutes on the top deck (with free WiFi) will give you a good view of the Ocean terminal and then the excellent georgian buildings as you approach the city. We traveled in on 6 days and saw 18 shows during the last week of August 2015 of the fringe festival. We also visited the castle (free to EH members) and had an interesting free tour of the Scottish Parliament building completed in 2004. Lunch in the Dome restaurant in George Street, a 'palm court' setting and not as expensive as you might think. A lovely clean site and weather good enough to cook breakfast outside on the barbecue each morning. A week to remember!
