Well worth the drive to the north coast.
The Dunnet Bay site is in a great location right on the north coast of Scotland and is very easy to get to. Some pitches have great views right across the bay and my husband and I have been lucky enough to get one of these on each of our three stays. The facilities are excellent and the wardens are very friendly and helpful. There is access to the beach from the site. Almost directly across the road, which can be busy at times, is the Dunnet Forest which provides some good walks (you can access it by the track leading into the wood yard rather than going all the way down to the car park. Dunnet Head (especially at sunset) and Duncansby Head are well worth a visit besides John o'Groats and Thurso. It's also worth walking westwards along the beach past Castletown harbour where there are some interesting facts about the flagstone quarrying that went on there years ago.
