Good for families

Perfect location for NC500

Stayed here 2 nights. This is a good choice for anyone doing the NC 500. The site is easy to access and the facilities are excellent. The site is exposed and from talking to people It seems to be permenantly windy. Be aware that the site is right next to the road and there is a surprising amount of traffic. I found the staff to be very friendly and helpful. Would certainly recommend this site.

Ah, indeed it is a good site with excellent facilities and ideal for touring the north of Scotland and for visiting Orkney and beyond with ferries from either Gills Bay or Scrabster. The wonderful beach can be accessed directly from the site while the forest is across the road.

Be aware that the site is all grass and levelling blocks may well be needed.

There is a fish & chip shop in Castletown and a convenience store while Thurso has any number of shops and a Tesco. The cheapest fuel in the area can be found at Tesco, Wick which is a pleasant drive from Castletown and doing the round trip will let you visit Jo’G on the way back and/or Castle of Mey. Duncansby Stacks aren’t far either.
