Great base for the north coast and islands

We spent 5 nights here in May and found the wardens helpful and cheerful.  The site is well looked after but relaxed and friendly and the facilities were spotlessly clean.  There is a little noise from the road, but this fades at night and it is obvious from the club book that it is next to a road. The adjacent beach has an enormous expanse of sand, and there were often only two or three people on it.  Also adjacent is the Seadrift Centre, with facilities for viewing the ocean through binoculars and a display of all the local wildlife.  Don't leave it until the end of your stay to discover this place, like we did! Other essential excursions are to the Orkneys (day trip from John O'Groats including a full day's coach tour), the Castle of Mey, the Stacks of Duncansby and Dunnet Head.  Oh, and don't forget the local gin distillery in Dunnet village. We were sorry when it was time to go.
