Not impressed

You may think this is an unfair account of our stay considering the time of year & proximity to the coast, but please read on...........arrived bank holiday weekend/half term so expected & found the site virtually full. Managed to find a pitch near our friends which worked out just fine, no complaints so far. We had been to Daleacres last year & responding to a complaint from a fellow caravaner from the previous year I said "stop grizzling" [see previous years post] & proceeded to praise the wardens, toilet block, grass etc. This visit, I have to say, was a disaster & how the club site, in my eyes, has gone backwards, nay, downhill. The grass was cut in 'bits' there didn't seem to be any method in what they cut or when. There were many parts that didn't see a mower in the six days we were there! My wife said that early morning in the shower/toilet block, there was a shortage of toilet paper. I fully appreciate it was school half term, I fully appreciate it was bank holiday Monday, but the amount of children on bikes, shouting, screaming, riding too fast & the wrong way round the site where, trust me, there will be an accident at some point, was just too much. It looked like & felt like a cheap commercial site not a revered Caravan Club site that we've been used to. Do you blame the children? Do you blame the parents? Do you blame the club? I know what you'll be saying "go to an adults only site if it worries you that much" but that's not the point, the point is the Caravan Club has standards, like most of us, & I feel those standards I witnessed at Daleacres have fallen well below what members expect. It didn't help having the 'family from hell' behind us, 3 caravans, 4 families, numerous offspring all running around shouting etc etc. To cap it all, & totally nothing to do with the Caravan Club nor the site, we eagerly waited for the pizza van to turn up [5.30-8pm] strolled round at 7pm [1 hour left of trading] only to be told "we've run out of dough" Come on chaps, you're a business, shape up or get out! There was an hours worth of trading left & a dozen 'punters' waiting for food, but, as I said, absolutely nothing to do with the sight. On the plus side, apart from the above, we had a good time. Places to visit are: Botolph's Inn just down the road, good cheap food. Shepherd & Crook [2 miles away at Burmarsh] worth a visit. Walnut Tree at Ardlington [5 miles away, superb food]. Lathe Barn [1 mile away] coffee shop. Mary's Tea Rooms in Dymchurch is a must. A lovely cycle ride down the Military Canal into West Hythe is lovely. Please don't think I'm one of the grumpy old gits/hecklers off the Muppet Show, I'm not. Perhaps in hindsight we should have thought more of the time we were going & perhaps booked in somewhere else. I wasn't alone with my thoughts on the site in general, others there seemed to agree with me. I'll take any constructive criticism on my review, but it's my review & others may not agree with it.
