Good for families

Superb location, but not likely to come back.

The pitches vary in ambience; some are tucked away under trees and some are in open sunny glades. Some areas have several pitches in a group and some are more isolated and offer greater privacy. Most pitches seem to be adequate in size and there is no feeling of crowding as the different areas are screened from each other by woodland. Some pitches are a lot closer to the road and railway, but where we were the noise from the level crossing barriers was barely audible. It was great not having an allocated place and we followed the suggestion of the friendly & helpful site staff to drive round the whole area before deciding on a pitch. We found a lovely spot with woodland views from nearly every window, which was delightful. There are plenty of service points for grey and black waste, recycling and fresh water.

The reasons we will not be returning is that the toilet and shower blocks (which are in different locations) are separated for quite a distance; from the downloadable map they looked a lot closer.  Although we were quite close to the toilets, there was no footpath so had to walk 4 times the distance along the road to reach them. The signage for pedestrians walking opposite to the one-way system is non-existent and walking under the trees on a cloudy moonless night it is very dark. As much of the site is not lit it's easy to miss a turn and get lost, even with a torch. More pedestrian signs and maybe some sort of reflective strip at junctions would help. Also there are no signs indicating the way to the nearest alternative facilities when the blocks are closed for cleaning.

Although the compostable toilets are a great idea and I am all for endorsing this environmentally positive step, I was immediately struck at how potentially dangerous they could be if a child fell in, as the hole is very deep and looked next to impossible to climb out again without help. I would not recommend this site for families with children.

If you were given a site map when you arrived you could see where the facilities are and perhaps a walk around to get your bearings where they are.

We have stayed here many times and like less lighting on site better for wildlife and a torch does help.

The site started off as a service point site only then the shower blocks were added and lastly the toilet blocks, as the site is not owned by the club, the owners did not want main drainage on site hence the the toilet system installed and there should be a adult with small children in the toilet block but do agree about the the drop but they an old design the modern version more like a normal toilet.

I have never understood why when the now ccc site on the other side of the level crossing was on the market the cc let the ccc buy it,as the cc were "advised" by the then warden it was coming on the market beforehand
