Noisy with Awful Toilets and Showers

We spent 2 weeks on the Crossways site and I would have to say they have the worst facilities of all the sites we have ever visted!. There are 6 bug infested run down showers for the entire site. Which are at opposite sides of the park. The showers trickle water out that is luke warm. The composting toilet smell and are not a nice thing to use. Potentially dangerous for young children. There are trains that run past the site with a busy road so its noisy throughout the day and night. Avoid unless your deaf and don't mind using your own facilities. Very dissapointed!

What a shame but I wonder why you stayed for two weeks. Were you not aware that you could have transferred part of your booking to another club site? All it would have cost you was any difference in site fees. Likewise, if you’d given sufficient notice you could have left with a refund in your pocket. It might be something to remember for the future.๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

We use this site a couple of times every year ,and cant say we've noticed to much road noise or train noise ,after the first train whistle you get used to it , the toilets are fine ,just don't let kids play in them, strange that both shower blocks were bug infested

Toilets unusual but clean bugs unavoidable in rural settings most CC club sites are situated in rural areas they too suffer with bugs in the buildings.

We make extensive use of the train by using a railcard for discounted fares and most main destinations have a good bus services enabling

car free travel to additional enjoyable places.

Experienced some excellent food at the local pub

No, not aware we could have left with a refund or transferred to another site. With 3 young children and 2 dogs it would have been hard work to pack up and relocate. As for going home, we would have lost too much money in boarding fees for additional animal left behind. We don’t get many holidays a year. Thanks for the tip for future bookings.

There are usually notices about this in the facility blocks and information rooms on site and you’ll find it somewhere in your handbook. Your experience proves it pays to discuss concerns with the wardens as they would have told you the options and addressed any issues.

Better luck next time.

To follow up on my wifes response for an option of a refund. I did discuss the issues with the toilets and showers with the wardens one night while walking back from the showers. It was a good 20 minute discussion and at no point did they mention anything about a refund. While it was not an official complaint there was plenty of opportunity to mention a refund.

Before we booked we did look at the 5 star reviews. Lesson learned take reviews with a pich of salt.

Hopefully this honest review at least might sway the reality of the real experience at Crossways if facilities are important.

We have had a seasonal at this site many years ago and at that time the site was leased and now a yearly rental so possibly no refurb in the future.

Sounds like Hunters Moon would have been better as the site has a large dog field and a children's play area also two modern toilet blocks.

As other folk have said about checking your handbook and there will be notices about a refund posted on site.

Hope this experience does not put your family staying on other sites.
