Excellent spot
After what seemed an indeterminable winter and period of lockdown we headed for Crossways on the first day restrictions were lifted. Staff were very helpful and given so many people also wanted to visit on the same day they managed the sudden rush of arrivals professionally and without fuss.
There are lots of quiet little glades to pitch in and where we stayed all we heard was the occasional train horn. (Take a torch as the site is pitch black at night) We used the nearby station to visit first Weymouth then Dorchester and had a great day out, lots to do and see. One tip, if you want to visit the nearby grave of TE Lawrence, (Lawrence of Arabia) and the Walled Garden at Moreton either on foot or by bike, turn left out of the site and then take the next left into Redbridge road. This is a very lightly trafficked route. After a mile or so cross the railway bridge and follow your nose, down through the woods across the valley and bear right by the equestrian centre. From there its a short distance to St Nicholas church and the garden. (The grave is actually in a small separate cemetery next to the walled garden). If you want to drive there is a free car park on the corner before the church that that will accommodate motor homes as well as cars. Would definitely use this site again.
