Ideal for walks from the site to Coniston and Torver
Love Coniston Park Coppice CAMC site - a new favourite! Although in a wood, there are lots of pitches in the open. Pitches come in all sizes from tiny to massive and there is a lot of flexibility over how you park your unit. We found a sunny spot near the bottom playground on a massive pitch which was great for our 8m+ van.
Wardens were great , as we have always found them to be. There is a little shop for essentials.
Great walks from the site and a short walk into Coniston( which has shops, pubs cafes, car parks, tourist information), either through fields by the lake or inland along the old railway line.
Coniston is a lovely village. Can thoroughly recommend two cafes ( our requirements are : dog friendly, gluten free options and good coffee/ food): the Bluebird on the waterfront (for location)and in the village : The Herdwick
You can also walk along the old railway line ( from the top of the site near the road)or by the lake in the opposite direction to Torver where there is a pub and another gem of a cafe: Undercrag which is the studio/ gallery of a local artist and Thursday to Sunday a fabulous vegetarian cafe. It is very out of the way. A short walk on from the pub but very worth the effort and is frequented by many locals.
Had a lovely walk to the Coppermines valley from Coniston village.
We also drove to Lake Windermere where we visited NT Wray castle ( great cafe) and NT Claife viewing station. Then we drove to Ambleside for a wander and had a great lunch ( GF & Dog friendly) at Mr H Tearoom.
Can recommend the Coniston Inn just the other side of the village and on the lake shore. Lovely and spacious inside with great food. Also dog friendly. We only discovered it on our last evening but would have returned if we had longer there.
